Stewart Rallies From Back of Pack to First-Ever Win at the RCA Dome

Dungey Leads 15 Laps En Route to Lites Class Win

INDIANAPOLIS (March 24, 2007) – Kawasaki’s James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., won his eighth Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series race in front of 54,626 fans at the RCA Dome. Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey, of Belle Plaine, Minn., earned his second Eastern Regional AMA Supercross Lites win.

After scoring the $1,500 Progressive Direct Holeshot Award, Yamaha’s Chad Reed, of Dade City, Fla., began to establish a huge lead as Stewart started near the back of the pack. Stewart started his chase on Reed immediately, moving into second place on lap seven. On lap 14 Stewart passed Reed for lead and rode to victory. Reed finished second and Kawasaki’s Tim Ferry, of Dade City, Fla., finished third.

“I had a great start tonight,” said Reed. “It was a lot of riding up front, but I need to be more aggressive out there.”

“I was a little nervous when I saw Chad out front, and I was so far back in the pack,” said Stewart. “I have worked hard for everything for my entire life, and that’s what I did tonight, worked hard. I am so happy right now.”

Dungey won the $1,000 Progressive Direct Holeshot Award to start the AMA Supercross Lites main event. Through turn one, Kawasaki’s Ben Townley, of Tallahassee, Fla., came out in second place and followed Dungey for all 15 laps where they finished first and second respectively. Series points leader Ryan Morais, of Murrieta, Calif., used a mid-pack start to salvage points heading into next weekend’s race in Dallas.

“This was a huge win for me,” said Dungey. “I have had some bad luck lately, and to pick up this win is huge for me and my team, who has been behind me all year. “I have to use this as momentum for next weekend in Dallas.”

Tonight’s AMA Supercross class race will air on CBS Sports Sunday, March 25, at Noon EST. The AMA Supercross Lites class race air on SPEED Monday, April 4, at 4:00 a.m. EST. Racing continues next Saturday, March 31, at Texas Stadium in Irving, Texas.
