Steel City Raceway Hosts “American Motocross Festival” on Aug. 29-30

Featuring Saturday Main Events for AMA Toyota Motocross, WMA and ATV MX

DELMONT, Pa. (July 17, 2008) – Pittsburgh area fans will witness an action-packed Labor Day weekend of racing when Steel City Raceway hosts the inaugural American Motocross Festival, a two-day event on Aug. 29-30 that combines three world-class motocross disciplines: AMA Toyota Motocross, Women’s National Motocross and ATV MX.

Local promoter Bellco, Inc. of Morgantown, W.Va., has hosted separate national-level races for each racing discipline at Steel City Raceway. But never before in the 25 years of organizing races at the famed Delmont race facility have race fans been given the opportunity to watch the world’s top two-wheel and four-wheel dirt bike racers, men and women, on the same day.

Friday’s schedule includes pro practice and qualifying from noon to 5:45 p.m. Saturday’s activities will feature racing action starting at 1 pm, followed by a freestyle show at 6 pm, a live concert at 7 pm headlining The Billy Morris Band, and a fireworks display at dusk.

“We have held world-class motocross events at Steel City,” said Bellco president Rita Coombs. “We have held both men’s and women’s motocross races, and men’s motocross and ATV races at our facility, but never all three at the same time. Our fans have dirt racing in their blood and we feel that by bringing all three disciplines together at once, including the freestyle show, concerts and fireworks, we’re adding more action for their dollar. This is a true Motocross Festival and we hope fans come and spend the entire day with us.”

Headlining the weekend will be the Monster Energy/Kawasaki Pro Motocross National, final round of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF, which will hold its main events on Saturday for the first time in the 21-year history at Steel City Raceway. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s James Stewart will look to close out a perfect season in Delmont with his 12th-consecutive win of the season, a feat accomplished only once before in 36 years of AMA Motocross.

Steel City Raceway plays host to the season finale for the AMA/WMA Women’s National Motocross Championship, where American Honda/Red Bull/Alpinestars rider Ashley Fiolek looks to become the first deaf rider to ever win an AMA national motocross championship.

Culminating the action as the final race on Saturday will be the Second Annual AMA Pro ATV Open, which features an invitational list of the sport’s top riders, including current ITP Tires/Moose Racing AMA National Motocross points leader Dustin Wimmer, Josh Creamer, Doug Gust, defending champion Pat Brown, Pennsylvania’s own John Natalie, and many others.
