Star Racing/Lucas Oil/Yamaha wicks it up at Phoenix SX

This past weekend the AMA Supercross series made a short trip into Phoenix, Arizona for round two. Star Racing/Lucas Oil/Yamaha and its riders Matt Lemoine, and Dusty Klatt were eager to get another crack at stardom. With Lemoine claiming a guaranteed top five finish and Klatt willing to show just how tough he is after last weeks severe burns, neither let anyone down.

Heat one brought up Klatt, jumping out of the gate slowly it looked like a repeat of the prior race, but some quick moves and smart riding helped the likeable Canadian find the front. In six laps, he climbed to 5th, which immediately proved all the work and time will pay off. In heat two was rookie sensation Lemoine who also lagged off the start, sitting back around 17th, but in one lap he made his way to 6th. At checkers fall, 4th place was the settling point and then it was off to the big show.

The main event really could not have started much better with Dusty Klatt 3rd, Matt Lemoine 4th, definitely making it a great race for the team. For five laps both teammates were in close contact, Lemoine knew where he wanted go and that was upfront to 2nd. Lap six saw Klatt have a run in with another rider while battling; the attempted block pass blew the Star rider right off the track and out of contention. Therefore, it was up to Lemoine and lap after lap the 17 year old kept composed except for two slight bobbles that had him running 3rd until lap fourteen. Which in Lites Supercross is one short, however the lad would hold it together for Yamaha and take home 4th.

In 2007 the stage has been set quickly for all the members of the team to keep raising the bar knowing our program is on target with the rest. The series heads back to So. Cal next weekend, which with Klatt getting his injuries to improve and gaining the confidence in his speed we see him dicing it out upfront as well. While Lemoine has established himself to be a threat sitting one point out of 3rd place in the series.
