Star Racing/Lucas Oil/Yamaha San Diego Race Recap

Over the weekend, AMA Supercross visited Qualcomm stadium in San Diego, California for the final round of the West Coast Lites series for quite a while. Matt Lemoine and Dusty Klatt of Star Racing/Lucas Oil/Yamaha showed up knowing this was going to be their last shot at some quick success. During the day program in practice, Lemoine not only was super quick, he went out and started jumping a section of jumps before any other Lites competitors. Note: Only a handful of riders actually ended up matching him…

Heat one, Lemoine gated to the inside and got a terrible jump, shortly after he managed to get collected in a first turn pile up which totally took him out of qualifying contention. Heat two, Klatt to rounded the first turn in the rear of the field but dodged a ton of wrecks and found his way to 8th. At the end of six laps, Klatt slowly picked his way up to 5th and moved onto the main event. The dreaded LCQ luckily went uneventful for Lemoine, as he grabbed a second place start and remained there till the checkers.

For the main event, both Yamaha pilots opted to start to the outside of the gate in hopes of avoiding any misfortunes. Slow reaction times though kept both Lemoine 12th, and Klatt 13th.  Matt moved the quickest, by lap six he sat 8th,  only to wash his front tire out and file back in at the 17th spot. Meanwhile, Dusty rode his usual consistent pace the entire race hovering between 10th to 13th. When the fifteen laps were up, Klatt secured 11th matching his seasons best and Lemoine rode on the edge all the way back to 12th.

This weekend we move east all the way to Atlanta where we expect big things from Broc Tickle. This kid has all the tools! Sean Collier as well looks to get passed some practice crashes and show his cards for the first time out east. Good things are to come…
