Star Racing/Lucas Oil/Yamaha Comes From Behind in Texas

The AMA supercross series went to the mid west over the weekend, visiting Houston Texas’ Reliant Stadium. Star Racing/Lucas Oil/Yamaha is still standing in the midst of the other major players thanks to Matt Lemoine. With this, we knew that good things were coming since it was his hometown race. Dusty Klatt also had a strong week coming in, which made it likely both riders would step up.

Heat one brought our rookie up first, Lemoine had been feeling the pressure all day. However, he reeled off a fair start and settled in just outside the top five. Still riding not at his full potential, Lemoine qualified in 5th. Heat two, took off and Klatt immediately tangled with another rider. Never the less, our Canadian put his head down to try and move from 20th. At the end of six laps, he only was able to muster a 12th, sending him to the LCQ. Luckily, in the LCQ, Klatt grabbed the start and lead the field all the way to the checkers.

When the gate dropped in the main event, Lemoine wasted no time and sat in the 4th position, Klatt though was in familiar territory, 15th, because of a bad gate pick. On lap two, Lemoine unraveled in the heat of a battle, seeing him slide out his YZ 250F and going all the back to 20th. Now we had two riders on the charge, Klatt started tapping into his speed, gaining a few spots by halfway. Ten laps into the race, Lemoine also started to race like a future champion, sitting 10th and not backing down one bit, he began to put his fitness to use. With three laps to the checkers, Klatt made an effort for his first top ten, only come up short in 11th. Lemoine fought like a warrior snagging another three spots, one on the last lap to attain 7th.

The series is in transition as the east coast comes up fast in two weeks, but this weekend we head down to San Diego sitting tied for 5th in points. Lets all hope for that podium finish, which is so close.
