Spy Optic Motocross Report: Wey places 7th @ High Point, Cooke 1st & Carpenter 3rd in Calgary

Monster/Cernic’s/Kawasaki’s Heidi Cooke (1st) joins Paul Carpenter (3rd) in Canadian MX podium effort; Wey’s finish is his best of the year

CARLSBAD, Calif., (June 15, 2009) –  Spy Optic’s Nick Wey (Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing), a proud new poppa for the second time, scored a season-best 7th place finish (7th/10th) at the High Point MX National in Mt. Morris, Pa., round four of the 2009 Lucas Oil MX Nationals.

The effort for Wey was his best finish yet this year at the Nationals, moving him to within two points of Daniel Reardon (68-66) for a top ten overall spot in the premier 450 class standings. “Busy week at the Wey compound, but things went well and I was pumped to come back to High Point and race,” he said. “Pulled a good start in the first moto and was able to put two top ten finishes together.” Note: For his effort Wey was awarded the top privateer as part of the Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross’ opening round at High Point.

Up north of the border Spy Optic’s Paul Carpenter (Monster Energy/Cernic’s/Kawasaki) raced to another podium 3rd place finish this past weekend at round two of the 2009 Monster Energy CMRC Canadian MX Nationals’ MX1 class at Wild Rose MX Park in Calgary, Alberta. Carpenter was joined in the top ten by three other Spy Optic-backed riders, including teammates Bob Kiniry (5th) and Jack Carpenter (6th), along with Jeff Northrop (9th). This gave Spy Optic 40-percent of the top ten premier MX1 class placers in Canada – more than any other goggle!

And for the women racing the Canadian MX Nationals, Spy Optic’s Heidi Cooke (Monster Energy/Cernic’s/Kawasaki) remains undefeated in motos and overalls, raising her record to 4-0/2-0 with a decisive 1-1 performance at Wild Rose.

Wey and the rest of the U.S. Spy Optic racers return to action on the MX Nationals tour in two weeks in Colorado (Lakewood), while the Monster Energy/Cernic’s/Kawasaki team returns to action this weekend at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta.
