SPY Athletes Go Golden, Silver And Bronze At X Games

CARLSBAD, Calif.—SPY® extends a herculean SPY-five to motocross maven Vicki Golden for stomping the field and grabbing gold in Women’s Moto X Racing; fan favorite Ken Block for claiming silver in RallyCross; and Chilean rider Javier Villegas for taking home bronze in Moto X Freestyle during X Games Los Angeles 2012.

Untouchable from the start, Vicki Golden left the women’s field inhaling the sweet scent of exhaust and dirt in their craws—finishing 7.16 seconds ahead of Puerto Rican standout Tarah Gieger.

“I got a good start and that was definitely the key,” said Golden on earning her second consecutive gold medal in Women’s Moto X Racing. “It was so tight around the first corner, and I just kind of rode my race from there.”

Ken Block—Gymkhana pioneer and co-designer of his signature line of SPY Helm shades—manhandled his souped-up Ford Fiesta to clutch second place, despite puncturing his tire in the last lap. Along with earning silver, Block—who kept busy blazing past legendary action sports stars turned rally drivers—cemented himself as a legitimate threat on the World RallyCross circuit.

“It was an honor to race with Sebastien Loeb, and to do it on a rim,” said Block in a statement to Ford Racing. “We’ve been waiting to get on the grid and I knew my Fiesta could do it.”

Chilean transplant and 2011 FIM Freestyle MX World Champion Javier Villegas also got his X Games groove on, besting Nate Adams and a field of others to snag bronze during his inaugural X Games appearance.

"It was the best run I could put together on this amazing course,” said Villegas. “I cleared my head and it was just the ramp, the bike and me. The stadium was empty, and then I landed my last trick and the stadium was full again."
