Ricky Carmichael Makes Truck Series Debut at Daytona

Motocross Champ to Make First Truck Start with KHI and Monster Energy

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. (February 9, 2009) – Ricky Carmichael will make his debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Friday evening at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in the 10th-annual running of the NextEra Energy Resources 250. Carmichael, the most successful motocross racer in history, will drive the No. 4 Monster Energy Silverado for the KHI All-Star Team in at least 14 truck events during the 2009 season.

In the history of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), no other rider has won as many championships (15) and races (150) as Carmichael, a 29-year-old resident of Tallahassee, Fla., earning him the nickname the GOAT (Greatest of All-Time). Carmichael was a record five-time AMA “Rider of the Year.”

The Florida native has five victories at Daytona in the AMA Supercross category – more than any other rider in history.

“I’m having so much fun” said Carmichael about his new vocation. “I understand my place – I’m here to learn and to earn respect from the other racers. But, I’m also putting 100 percent into this effort and my first goal is to finish the race. We need to gain the experience and the only way to do so is to get laps. I won a lot of races in motocross by being smart, and that’s the attitude I’m taking here. To be smart means not trying to be a hero and taking myself out of the race early on. That wouldn’t help anyone: myself, the team or our sponsors.

“I don’t know exactly how to describe the feeling of being at Daytona,” said Carmichael. “I’ve had so much success here, it’s just an amazing feeling coming through the tunnel and being here to race – no matter if it’s a car, truck or motorcycle. It’s awesome to be here and it’s always been like a home track for me.”

The No. 33 KHI team is led by crew chief Billy Wilburn, a veteran of many years in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series.
