Redux Beverages/Brawndo Honda Event Update presented by Kingdom Crown

Unadilla, NY

July 20th, 2008

The AMA National Motocross Championship moved to the Unadilla Valley Sports Complex, located in the rolling hills of upstate New York, for round eight of the 2008 campaign. Bob Kiniry felt right at home, as the Unadilla facility is just a stone’s throw from his hometown of Lafayette, NY. Leading up to the event, the weather was beautiful and everything was looking great for another successful weekend of racing action.

“Brawndo” Bob took to the track on Sunday morning with extremely high expectations. He was a little disappointed with his practice run, leaving him with a worse gate pick than he is accustomed to. But when the gate hit the rocky New York soil, Bob wasted little time making his way to the front end of the pack. He rounded the first lap in 12th, and was locked in battle for the duration of the first moto. After dropping back a few positions, he was able to rally his way forward for a solid 12th place moto finish.

The second moto was looking great as Bob put himself in a great position from the drop of the gate. After pulling a top ten start, he was able to move up to seventh within a few laps. He was working hard, looking for his first top five finish of the motocross season when the skies opened up and rain began to saturate the track. Soon after, thunder and lightning began and the American Motorcyclist Association decided to red flag the race (signifying and early end and possible restart). After waiting nearly an hour, Bob was back on the gate and ready to do it all over again, this time on an extremely muddy track. Unfortunately, he was unable to get this bike to start and the pack took off without him. After over a minute of kicking and ultimately push-starting his bike, Bob took off and gave chase to the 39 other riders. Within a few laps he had caught and began passing the tail end of the pack. You could see the frustration in his riding, as he was absolutely flying around the difficult and muddy track and making up ground with each passing lap. On the final lap, Bob had climbed all the way back to 20th position when his bike expired. He would be forced to walk back to the pits empty-handed for the moto. When all was said and done, Bob’s moto score of 12/28 earned him 18th overall on the weekend.

“Redux” Ryan Clark was searching for speed that he had prior to the ankle injury suffered way back at Mt. Morris, PA. After a few disappointing practice sessions, he was lined up way outside for the start of moto one. Being back in pack on the opening laps leaves you susceptible to all sort of problems, many of which Ryan encountered on the first and second laps. After clearing through the carnage, he was well outside the top thirty. He rode consistent laps and climbed back to 25th position at the end of moto one.

The second moto began quite a bit better. After about an hour rain delay, the track was extremely muddy and rutted. Ryan had a start just outside the top twenty and moved up several positions quickly before crashing in the back section of the course. He remounted around 30th and began a charge through the pack that would land him in 20th position at the checkered flag to earn one national point. Ryan’s 25/20 moto tally put him in 24th overall on the day.

The Redux Beverages/Brawndo Honda squad will be back in action next weekend at Washougal Motocross Park in Washougal, Washington. Bob will be looking for redemption and Ryan will looking to get back on the pace he was on at the start of the motocross season.
