Series to Visit Southern California, the Birthplace of Motocross
SANTA MONICA, CA (January 31, 2012) - The world’s best freestyle motocross riders will take to the air again in front of huge crowds at some of the most iconic locations when the Red Bull X-Fighters kicks off its six stop 2012 world tour on April 13 in Dubai. The planet’s premiere freestyle motocross competition features six events on four continents. The series will make a stop in America, as the sport will return to its roots in Southern California, at Glen Helen in San Bernardino, to pay homage to what has become a truly international sport.
Breathtaking jumps on motorcycles flying across the floor of dynamic venues, gravity-defying acrobatics in front of frenzied crowds and some of the most exciting rivalries in sports will once again be the essential ingredients of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour. The riders will return to Dubai, Madrid and Sydney to battle for championship points. They will also take their high-flying act new locations Glen Helen, Istanbul and Munich in this, the series' 12th season.
Dany Torres will be looking to defend his championship after dethroning 2010 champion, American star Nate Adams. The Spaniard launched a thrilling come-from-behind pursuit of the title with an exhilarating victory in front of 23,000 hometown fans in Madrid midway through last season. He knows he will also face a run for his money from returning riders including Andre Villa of Norway, who had a hot hand through the early stages of the season before getting knocked out of the championship by injury after a spectacular crash and ending up third behind Torres and Adams.
Sydney winner Josh Sheehan, who aced a pair of double backflips in front of his Aussie home crowd, distance jumping world record holder Robbie Maddison and the "Rubber Kid," Levi Sherwood of New Zealand are also among the top contenders for the 2012 title. More than 230,000 fans witnessed the incredible Red Bull X-Fighters action last year.
"The Red Bull X-Fighters is the most important championship with the best riders in the world," said Torres. "There may be surprises with any of the riders."
