Press Release

Promising KTM debut for De Dycker

Ken
De Dycker's first
GP for the Red Bull-KTM team -filling in for the injured Max Nagl-
turned out to be a success in spite of a very limited preparation on
his new bike. The former Dutch GP winner recorded a 5th
and 6th
place in Monday’s motos earnining him a shared 5th
place overall. Team mate Antonio Cairoli was the overall winner.

On
Sunday morning the 27-year old Belgian immediately produced
encouraging lap times and De Dycker got more comfortable as the
weekend would wear on. From 12th
on the opening lap Keeno pushed on to capture 6th
in qualifying.

Weather
conditions on Easter Monday were chilly and damp but the K9
legion

witnessed an inspired performance by their favourite rider. De Dycker
had a great jump from the gate in the first race and the KTM 450 SX-F
mounted rider nearly grabbed the holeshot. Unfortunately he lost a
couple of spots in the traditional moto
scrimmage
in
the second corner. Chasing David Philippaerts in the early stages Ken
started to improve his rhythm and climbed up from ninth to fifth. In
moto number two the former German and British MX1 champion had an
okay start and found himself once again in 9th position early on. The
additional riding time and further adjustments to his suspension
started to pay off.

De
Dycker charged ahead and helped to produce some great on-board action
with his helmet camera in the process!

After
six laps the Red Bull-KTM rider was circulating in fourth behind
Cairoli, Desalle and Frossard. Unfortunately a crash and goggle
problems intervened. Yet a sixth place finish at the end of the moto
was a positive outcome for the all important first Grand Prix of the
2012 FIM MX1 World Championship.

Ken
De Dycker:

"Looking back on the weekend I am pretty satisfied with my
performance in Valkenswaard. Before the weekend I only managed to
ride the KTM twice and we had one testing session for the suspension.
So I think it’s fair to say that we hit the ground running! In the
first moto I had a very good start and I was quite happy with my
riding. The bike was a bit nervous at the back but we were able to
correct that in between motos. In terms of feeling on the bike, the
second was surely the best of the weekend. It was unfortunate to
crash because I might have finished higher than sixth. However, all
things considered my orange launch was a good one. And in spite of
the hectic times leading up to the Dutch Grand Prix I felt quite
serene. I was not particularly nervous or anything. In fact it was
the opposite because I felt pretty confident. Building on our result
in Valkenswaard and especially with the feeling I had in the second
moto that confidence is now even bigger.

This
week I will continue with training and testing on the SX-F 450 in
Belgium. But the best possible preparation for the races on hard pack
ahead of us is to clock as much time as possible on these type of
tracks. So this weekend I will head to Italy to test and ride with
the Red Bull-KTM De Carli Team. From Italy I will leave for the next
GP in Bulagaria. This also means that I will miss the Dutch
Championship race in Emmen will. I feel sorry for my Dutch fans and
as a result of my absence my chances on the Dutch title will be as
much as gone. On the other hand, now is the time to focus on my
adaptation to the KTM, and Rome is the ideal place to do that."
