Presenting The FIM Supermoto World Championship

FRANCIACORTA (BRESCIA), 24 March 2007- The FIM Supermoto World Championship circus visited the fantastic Autodromo Daniele Bonara yesterday for the first time.

The superb structure will host the second edition of the FIM Supermoto of Nations on September 30, but yesterday it played host to the Official Presentation of the Championship.

Youthstream President Giuseppe Luongo, FIM/CMS President Dr. Wolfgang Srb, Dunlop Motorcycle Motorsport EU Manager Steve Male and DBO General Manager Danilo Boccadolce explained their plans for another enthralling Supermoto season during a Press Conference at 6.00 pm.

Later on, the main stage was given to the teams and the riders attending the 2007 GP campaign, and each team was introduced to the press.

Youthstream President, Giuseppe Luongo, said: “First of all, thanks to our host Daniele Bonara: his structure is so far the best we have ever seen in Supermoto. We are looking forward to organizing the FIM Supermoto of Nations here on September 30. It will be the race of the year, as we will have also an American and many more. Youthstream believes in Supermoto a lot, and we will try our hardest to develop it. I have to thank the organizers, the teams and the riders, who are all doing a great job. Supermoto is like a son for us, and we are careful fathers.”

Dunlop and Youthstream made the FIM Supermoto World Championship even more interesting in 2006, with Dunlop entering the Championship as the unique tyre supplier. Dunlop will continue its cooperation with Youthstream until 2009, and the company’s Motorcycle Motorsport EU Manager Steve Male stated: “It is a busy start to the season for Dunlop in motorcycle racing, and we made another investment with Youthstream in Supermoto, because we believe it is a good sport and it has a bright future ahead. We want to make it grow; the mono-brand tyre system we brought to the Championship gave the teams access to the same quality and to the same amount of tyres.”

In 2007 DBO President Danilo Boccadolce will organize four Supermoto events in total: the FIM Supermoto of Nations, the first GP in Castelletto di Branduzzo, the GP of Italy in Turin, and the GP le Alpi del Mare in Busca. Boccadolce said: “We organize these four events, one of which is the Supermoto of Nations that this year will host also an American team. I am very proud of this cooperation with Youthstream and FIM. Franciacorta is a great location for the Nations, then we all know the quality of Busca and Castelletto. Turin is a news: the GP will be held in a historical location (Lingotto), and I am sure we will have a huge crowd attending the event.”

FIM/CMS President Dr. Wolfgang Srb confirmed the Federation’s commitment for this coming season: “The commitment is unchanged, it is still a young Championship, but we are working very well on its development with our contractual partner Youthstream. We are improving year by year, and the quality of the structures is getting better and better as we can see here at Franciacorta. The staff at Busca is working hard, which means organizers want to improve too. We welcome the arrival of new teams and new riders, and this is good for the future of the FIM Supermoto World Championship.”
