Antonio Cairoli Captures 91st Career Victory in the MXGP Class to take Hold of the Championship Standings, While Tom Vialle Tops MX2 and Maintains the Red Plate

Faenza (Italy) September 14th, 2020 – The Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna, the eighth round of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship, was the last of three GPs to be held at the Monte Coralli circuit in Faenza. Once more the front and rear SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft, combined with medium-hard mousse, proved to be the winning choice and allowed the Italian brand to place their riders in the top spots of both classes and to occupy the first eight positions in the MX2 championship standings, as well as the first five in MXGP.

Antonio Cairoli took his ninety-first Grand Prix victory and also placed his hands on the red plate as leader of the championship. Tim Gajser was second and Jorge Prado, in third, completed the MXGP podium dominated once again by Pirelli. There was a good performance also by Jeremy Seewer who finished fourth.

A fourth victory of the season went to Tom Vialle in MX2 who remains at the top of the championship standings. Second, on equal points with the winner, was Jago Geerts who classified ahead of Jed Beaton. With Thomas Olsen's fourth place, Roan Van De Moosdijk in fifth and Ben Watson sixth, Pirelli monopolized the top six positions in the MX2 class ranking.

In two weeks time the riders will tackle Mantova for the Grand Prix of Lombardia. The meeting will represent the ninth round of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship and the first of the triple header that will be held at the Tazio Nuvolari sandy terrain.

Pirelli renews its partnership with Infront Moto Racing, organiser of the FIM Motocross World Championship, and signs a three-year contract to be an Official Tyre Supplier of the most important international series for off-road motorcycles up to and including the 2023 season.

Pirelli's commitment to the FIM Motocross World Championship has been constant for many years and has won the most World titles (72) in this Championship since 1980, thanks to the performance of SCORPION™ MX32™, one of its most successful tyres ever. Pirelli is now present on the circuit for the 41st season as an Official Tyre Supplier with the same determination and commitment that over the years has led to the victory of numerous world titles. Among these we remember 7 World Championships alongside Belgian rider Stefan Everts, 6 with the Italian Antonio Cairoli, 4 with the Dutchman Jeffrey Herlings, 3 World Championships with each of the Belgian riders André Malherbe, Eric Geboers, Jöel Smets and another trio with the British David Thorpe. More recently, the three World Championships won with the Slovenian Tim Gajser, and the pair won with the Spaniard Jorge Prado in the last two years, just to mention some of the riders who have chosen to rely on Pirelli over the years.

The effort and constant work carried out by Pirelli consists of a team of 4 people present to support the riders in all stages of the Championship, and an average of over 450 tyres brought to each Grand Prix, in addition to over 250 mousses.

Giorgio Barbier, Pirelli’s Head of Moto Racing Activities, commented, following the renewal of the contract with Infront Moto Racing: “For Pirelli, the FIM Motocross World Championship continues to be a top activity in which we strongly believe in, for this reason we have decided to renew our partnership with Infront Moto Racing until 2023. During the last years, we have had the chance to witness and contribute to the exponential growth of this championship, which today features a large number of both riders and manufacturers and, most of all, a great international media visibility thanks to a Calendar that includes, made exception for this 2020, several rounds outside of Europe. The FIM Motocross World Championship represents a strategic stage to increase brand awareness in some Countries that are important for our business, while remaining a perfect proving ground to develop with the top motocross Champions the tyres that will be available to all riders around the world”.
