Pirelli Riders Splash Through the Rain at Supercross Finale in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (May 8, 2016) – In front of more than 36,714 fans, the 17th and final round of the 2016 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, was held Saturday night inside Sam Boyd Stadium. Thunderstorms and rain showers throughout the afternoon provided the ultimate challenge as riders splashed their way around the technical course. Pirelli-supported riders began the day with the SCOPRION™MX32™PRO, however, as track conditions became muddier many riders opted for the SCOPRION™MX32™ in the Main Events.

After injuring himself earlier this season in Daytona, BTO Sports/WPS/KTM’s Davi Millsaps made an impressive return to racing by grabbing a second place start in 450SX Class Heat 1. The lanky Georgia-native made several attempts to overtake the leader, but would settle for 2nd to transfer to the Main Event.

Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha’s Justin Barcia kicked off 450SX Semi 1 near the front of the field and quickly set his sights on the early race leader. A small crash cost him valuable time and he would cross the checkered flag in 2nd. TPJ Racing’s Nick Schmidt rode consistent to claim 4th, followed by Pirelli teammate and BTO Sports/WPS/KTM rider Benny Bloss in 5th. The three riders earned a starting position into the 450SX Class Main Event.

Justin Brayton took full advantage of his SCOPRION™MX tires as he jumped out of the gate to grab the holeshot in the 450SX LCQ. He rode steady, leading every lap en route to the checkered flag.

As the gate dropped for the abbreviated 450SX Class Main Event, the No.10 Brayton was buried deep in the 22-rider field, completing the opening lap in 20th position. The veteran relied on his consistency to claw his way up the running order in the star-studded lineup. His impressive come-from-behind ride netted him 7th as he crossed the checkered flag.

Barcia started the 15-lap Main Event inside of the top-10, fighting for position as he worked his way around the treacherous course. He fought-hard the entire race and raced to his best finish of the season in 10th.

The privateer of Schmidt once again battled hard against the sports brightest stars, which included a solid 16th place. In his final race filling in for the BTO Sports team, the rookie Bloss was running strong until a mistake cost him several positions, eventually ending the final in 19th.

Carrying the momentum from his heat race earlier in the evening, Millsaps circulated the opening lap in fifth place. Despite the muddy conditions, the crowd watched in awe as Millsaps blitzed his way into fourth. Unfortunately, the same spot where he made the pass would cost him the race just one lap later and he was credited with 22nd.

No stranger to wet conditions, Frenchman Cedric Soubeyras carried the confidence from his recent string of performances to battle his way into a transfer position via a 9th place finish in the 250SX East Heat.

In the 250SX Main Event, Soubeyras fell victim to misfortune on the opening lap and started just inside of the top-20. He methodically approached the slippery conditions, slowly picking off riders one-by-one throughout the 12-lap final. The strong effort would earn him 14th place at the finish.

The next scheduled stop for Pirelli is the Hangtown Motocross Classic on May 21, which will serve as the opening round of the 2016 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
