Pirelli Leads both FIM Motocross World Championship Classes After the MXGP of Russia at Orlyonok

Herlings Finishes Runner-Up to Extend Championship Lead to 23 Points, While Jonass Dominates MX2 to Keep the Red Plate

ORLYONOK, Russia (May 1. 2018) - Perfect weather and a large crowd were the setting for the sixth round of the 2018 FIM Motocross World Championship, which for the second year in a row, was hosted by the Orlyonok track on Tuesday and a holiday date slot in Russia. The SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and rear tires were chosen by all Pirelli-equipped riders to attack the medium/hard and particularly slippery soil of the Russian track located on the shores of the Black Sea.

In the MXGP class, title contenders Jeffrey Herlings and Antonio Cairoli finished second and third. Thanks to this result, the Dutchman Herlings has increased his lead in the standings over the nine-time World Champion. Strong rides were also recorded by Romain FebvreTim Gajser and Gautier Paulin, who filled the fourth, fifth, and sixth positions, respectively.

Pauls Jonass returned to rule the MX2 category with his fourth victory of the season. The Latvian dominated Qualification on Saturday and then both races on Sunday leaving teammate Jorge Prado as runner-up. Thomas Kjer Olsen was fifth overall and continues to occupy third place in the championship standings just behind the factory KTM riders.

On May 13th the Kegums circuit will host the Grand Prix of Latvia for the seventh of 20 rounds in the 2018 campaign.
