RIOLA SARDO, Italy (January 27, 2020) – The first round of the ‘Internazionali d'Italia Motocross’, held on the ‘Le Dune’ track in Riola Sardo, officially kicked off the 2020 European motocross season. The Sardinian circuit is formed from sandy soil and Pirelli riders used the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and the SCORPION™ MX Soft rear tires to tackle the conditions. Pirelli dominated race day by sweeping the MX1 and MX2 podiums and filling the first two positions of the Superfinal. In MX1Tim Gajser took command early on and maintained control until the checkered flag. Mitchell Evans filled an excellent second position and a noteworthy result on his debut with the 450. There was also a good performance by Jeremy Seewer who, despite some small errors, managed to get on the third step of the podium.

Pirelli dominated in MX2; a contest won by Jago Geerts. The Belgian confirmed his skills on the sand ahead of Yamaha teammate Ben Watson. Frenchman Maxime Renaux finished in third place. Gajser claimed the Superfinal, which mixed the top-20 MX1 and MX2 riders. The reigning MXGP world champion made another perfect start and rode undisturbed to the finish. Seewer was very fast and classified second. Fourth place belonged to  Paulin who led a couple of MX2 riders with Geerts and Watson.

Pirelli also achieved overall victory in the 125 class with Pietro Razzini and third place with Dane Rasmus Pedersen. The sandy circuit at Ottobiano will host the second round of the 2020 ‘Internazionali d’Italia Motocross’ next weekend.
