Pirelli Celebrates 2019 MXGP Motocross World Title with Tim Gajser

Tim Gajser Clinches Second MXGP World Championship at the MXGP of Italy with Three Rounds Remaining; Jorge Prado Takes 14th MX2 Victory of the Season

IMOLA, Italy (August 19, 2019) – The 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship held its 15th round of the season at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari at Imola for the MXGP of Italy this past weekend. The hard pack soil was built on the Rivazza hill over part of the famous and historic layout and, combined with high summer temperatures, put a tough physical strain on the riders. Pirelli riders were able to count on the excellent performance of the Pirelli SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and rear tires.

A fifth place result in Moto 1 was enough to allow Tim Gajser to become MXGP World Champion with three rounds still to go. The 22-year-old Slovenian clinched the title for the second time of his young career, previously winning in his debut year in the premier class in 2016. Gajser, who captured his third crown with Pirelli in the last five years, held a commanding lead in the championship standings, and a third place overall at Imola was more than enough to begin the celebrations. Jeremy Seewer charged to another strong performance, finishing second on the day and occupying the same position in the championship.

Jorge Prado was once again untouchable in MX2. The Spaniard won by dominating both races and could potentially be able to toast his second consecutive MX2 title in Sweden next week. Thomas Kjer Olsen is the only rider who can still mathematically catch Prado and the Dane finished second. Calvin Vlaanderen rode well to finish in fifth place overall.

The 17th round of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship will continue next weekend for the Grand Prix of Sweden at the Uddevalla circuit.
