New film about John Penton and the birth of KTM motorcycles will be narrated by Grammy Award-winning artist Lyle Lovett - if funding goal is reached by June 23rd, 2012!
FULLERTON, CALIF. (June 14, 2012) - The John Penton Story may be coming to life this summer. Using the innovative "crowd funding" website Kickstarter.com, the producers at Pipeline Digital Media are trying to raise $275,000 to begin production of the film this summer. Grammy Award-winning artist and motorcycle enthusiast Lyle Lovett has graciously agreed to lend his voice to the film. Lovett raced motocross and worked in a Penton dealership sweeping floors as a 14-year-old boy, and at 15 he got to meet John Penton at a Penton dealer meeting in Amarillo, TX.
"It's an honor for me to be involved with a project about a man that contributed so much to my love of motorcycling," Lovett said. "I hope that everyone sees the importance of this project and spreads the word to help make it happen."
The film will cover the Penton family story including all of John's development as a racer and business man leading up to the creation of the Penton motorcycle in 1968. It will also follow the transition of Penton into what is now the modern KTM brand. Author Ed Youngblood's book John Penton and the Off-Road Motorcycle Revolution was the inspiration for filmmaker Todd Huffman to begin thinking about a film. Huffman also did a series of interviews in 2007 with John and Jack Penton, as well as John's nephew, the late Dane Leimbach, which will likely contribute to the film.
"I fell in love with the John Penton story in 2007 after reading Ed Youngblood's book and thought, 'What a great story to tell on film,'" says Producer Todd Huffman. "We hope that through social media networks and Kickstarter.com that this film will come alive in these last 9 days of the pledge campaign."
Kickstarter.com allows a limited time for pledges to be placed, from $1 to $10,000, until the entire project amount is reached. Only when 100% of funding is complete are pledges processed - in this case until June 23rd to be 100% funded or the pledges are not processed. Participants receive rewards depending on the level of the pledge, including DVDs, signed posters, books, even giclées of a commissioned painting by renowned motorcycle artist Tom Fritz www.fritzart.com.
