Motocross Grand Prix of Ireland

Motorcycling Ireland, the organiser’s of the Motocross Grand Prix of Ireland which will take place on Sat 30th and Sun 31st August at Fairyhouse Race Course, Co. Meath held a press conference at The Shelbourne Hotel Dublin earlier this week.


Present were Mr. Austin Mallon of the Sports Council of Ireland, Mr. Sean Bissett President of Motorcycling Ireland along with Shaun Simpson, who is currently in 4th place in the FIM World Motocross Championship, Shaun rides for the Northern Ireland based KTM UK Team. Irish rider’s Ross Brown Sonas Honda (Kildare) and Stuart Edmonds CCM TM (Dublin) were also in attendance.

Mr. Mallon said on behalf of the Sport Council of Ireland he was delighted to welcome the a round of the FIM World Motocross Championship to Ireland and praised the hard work of all the organising committee in bring such a prestigious world class event to Ireland.


Shaun Simpson KTM UK was extremely impressed with the layout of the all-new purpose built Fairyhouse track, which he said should suit his riding style. Shaun’s spectacular form in the FIM Motocross Grand Prix series continues with the twenty year old of from Fife in Scotland adding a podium finish at the Motocross Grand Prix of Sweden and a strong fifth overall finish in South Africa to his impressive World Championship tally. The KTM UK rider is strongly targeting the Motocross Grand Prix of Ireland for his first ever Grand Prix race win.


Sean Bissett President of Motorcycling Ireland who addressed the media at the press reception said “despite a live television audience of 46million viewers worldwide and an expected attendance of over 25 thousand people to the event, that the Motocross Grand Prix of Ireland still remains without a major sponsor”. Sean also say “the event is a fantastic way for Irish companies to promote their products to the 16 to 35 age group on a world wide stage with a combined audience of over seven hundred million people tuning into the FIM World Motocross Championship on TV throughout the Grand Prix season”.


Local rider’s Ross Brown Sonas Honda (Kildare) and Stuart Edmonds CCM TM (Dublin) have set their sights on joining the elite of motocross by qualifying to race with the top thirty Grand Prix motocross rider’s at the Fairyhouse event. Both riders’ have undertaken a serious commitment to race at this level with regular visits to The National Coaching Development Programme at University College Limerick to further enhance their fitness levels to compete at Grand Prix level.
