MotoConcepts Racing New Orleans Race Report

Spokane, WA. (March 17, 2009) – MotoConcepts Racing (MCRMX) did not find things easy during the 11th stop of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series in New Orleans this past Saturday night.

“This was a tough race overall for us as a team,” stated Team Manager Steve Lamson.  “Luckily, we did not have any injured riders and we can focus on getting back to racing again this weekend in St. Louis.”

The race weekend started off positive, as all four team riders posted strong times in qualifying.  In the 450 class, newly acquired Heath Voss, currently leading the race for Privateer of the Year, qualified 13th overall, the same number he runs.  Tyler Bowers was just behind Voss in 14th overall, only .038 seconds back.  Frenchman Ben Coisy, who battled illness all day, still placed 19th overall in qualifying, while only riding in the first practice session.  Illness kept Coisy from competing in the night show and ended his race day.  Missing the main didn’t help Coisy, as it dropped him two places back to 15th overall for the season.

Kentucky native Bowers got a strong start and rode to a fifth place finish in heat number one.  New Orleans was his 5th main of the season and for the second straight week, a 14th place finish.  Tyler is moving up the points list and is now in 21st overall.

Privateer of the Year candidate Voss landed in heat number two, where he also had a great start.  A 6th place finish moved Voss into the main event.  In the main, Voss had to pick himself up off the Superdome floor, but still rode to a 16th place finish.  Heath is currently 12th overall in points, six points in front of 13th place Nick Wey.

In the 250 class, rookie Vince Friese posted a 55.6 lap time, which put him in 16th qualifying place.  Friese would find no luck the rest of the night and he crashed at the start of his heat race and after taking the clear holeshot in the LCQ, was taken out in a corner and missed the main.  Friese is now in 17th overall in the 250 East class.
