Moto XXX: In the Groove

Top Ten Finishes Are Piling Up For Moto XXX

As hard as it is to believe, the 2006 AMA National Motocross Championship series is almost two thirds of the way finished. After a Supercross campaign that saw its riders fight through injuries, crashes and bad luck, the Unbound Energy/Moto XXX team has reached peak form in the outdoor series. In the past few rounds, they have continued to enjoy success, placing riders in the top ten consistently and even stealing a top five from the factory riders.

Red Bud was a good race for the team. Even though Timmy Ferry missed the first two rounds of the series, it didn’t take him long to start challenging the top riders. He went 7-5 for 6th place overall and was the top privateer of the day. Kyle Lewis was 10th and Josh Summey was 12th. Red Bud was the last event that Juss Laansoo raced before going home to Estonia to have a wrist injury repaired.

The next round was at New York’s famous Unadilla. Once again, Ferry led the way, this time cracking the top five with a pair of fifth place moto finishes. It almost goes without saying that he was the top privateer again. Kyle Lewis stepped up and finished 9th overall with a 10-9 showing, while Josh Summey was 17th on the day.

Most recently, the team competed in Lakewood, Colorado at round 7 of the series. It was no surprise to anyone that Ferry went 8-6 for sixth overall, leading the team, all privateers and several factory riders around the track. Summey continued his impressive summer with a 9th place finish and Kyle Lewis was solid again, finishing 15th.

Moto XXX currently occupies 9th (Ferry) and 10th (Summey) in the series standings. Kyle Lewis is 12th and only 3 points away from moving up one more position. Only one other team has been able to place two riders in the top ten week after week, and that’s Factory Honda. As far as privateers go, no one has had anywhere near the success of Moto XXX this summer. Of course, it’s not that surprising considering the fact that the team is enjoying its tenth season of competition at the sport’s highest level. Up next is Washougal where the game plan will be a simple one—just keep the ball rolling.
