Monster Energy Yamaha continue Italian Championship sweep

Steven Frossard and Christophe Charlier controlled
the MX1 and MX2 classes at Arco di Trento on their factory YZ450FM and
YZ250FM machinery today for the second round of four in the 2012 Italian
Championship, ‘Internazionali D’Italia’. For Frossard, the 2011 FIM
MX1-GP World Championship runner-up, his achievement represented a
second victory in succession and the second occasion in which he was
able to boast the scalp of MX1-GP champion Antonio Cairoli.

A brief light shower coated the circuit north of
Lake Garda (hosting the national series for more than twenty years) and
caused the stony terrain to become a little greasy but the conditions
presented little struggle to Frossard – the reigning Italian Champion –
who claimed both moto chequered flags ahead of team-mate David
Philippaerts who was second overall for an excellent day of work for the
Monster Energy Yamaha squad. Cairoli was third.

“I’m happy with my riding and results and it was
another good day in the Italian Championship for me and the team,”
Frossard said. “We did not need to work on the bike that much and I felt
better than I did last week even though I had a slight headache. We’ll
do our annual photoshoot this week now and then start to think about
Castiglione Del Lago. At the moment the pre-season is going to plan.”

Charlier owned the MX2 division after beating
Alessandro Lupino on his fuel-injected YZ250FM and then taking fifth
position in the second moto (the Elite outing a mix of MX1 450s and MX2
250s) run in front of a decent 8000 attendance. It was an impressive
first outing in the series for the former European Champion who had
recovered from illness during the week.

Round three will take place next weekend at the
former Grand Prix venue of Castiglione Del Lago west of Florence with
the final meeting set to occur on March 25th at Gazzane di Preseglie.
