Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki Soldiers on at Morden

Kamloops, BC (June16, 2008) Under looming skies, the Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki team rolled into round 3 of the Monster Energy Canadian Nationals at Morden, Manitoba looking to keep the momentum going in their chase for the MX2 title. With teammates Nick Evennou and Teddy Maier sitting second and third respectively in the championship chase the Kawasaki riders were happy to return to a track that they were both familiar with and looked to return to the winning form they showed at Ste. Julie.

Logging the second quickest lap times in both Saturday and Sunday's practice sessions, Teddy Maier was looking strong heading into Sunday's motos but unfortunately things would prove trying for the Iowa native. After getting a good jump off the gate in the first moto, Maier would get knocked over in the first turn, starting a chain reaction pileup that would leave him with a large gash in his arm. With blood soaking his jersey, Maier would remount a full lap down from the field and put on a valiant charge, working his way all the way back up to 14th by the end of the moto, salvaging valuable championship points. With his arm bandaged up, Maier went back out for the second moto and toughed out a solid 4th place finish before heading to the hospital to get the cut stitched up. Said Maier, "It was too bad, I had a great jump in the first moto and then all of a sudden I was on the ground. I knew something was wrong with my arm right away as it went numb but I just put my head down and charged."

Nick Evennou was optimistic coming into the Morden round, having spent time at the Shadow Valley track in the past, he was looking forward to a strong showing. Sitting second in points, Evennou was looking forward to closing up the gap on Eric Nye and was on his way to doing so as he was battling up front in moto one. Unfortunately for Evennou he would be slowed up with an electrical issue and have to nurse his bike across in 16th place, hardly the result he was looking for. The second moto was looking up for Nick as he took over the lead from Ryan Millar on the first lap and was looking strong before again having electrical issues that forced him to retire from the race. Said Evennou, "I was feeling really good out there and the bike was working awesome, it was too bad we had some electrical problems because I really felt like I would have been in the hunt. It wasn't anyone's fault and I know the team will work over time this week to make sure my bike is perfect for next weekend in Regina."

The teams third rider, Brock Hoyer had an up and down weekend at Morden going 13-21 for 17th overall. With a top 5 time in practice, Hoyer knows he can step things up and will be looking for redemption next weekend in Regina.
