Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki Dominates at Gopher Dunes

Teddy Maier takes over lead in MX2 Championship

Kamloops, BC (July 21, 2009) Leading Edge Kawasaki's Teddy Maier took his first overall win of the season in dominate fashion this past weekend at Gopher Dunes in Courtland, Ontario. The team was back in action after the series took a three week hiatus, resuming action at the deep sand track. Maier, who had scored his first moto win of the season at the previous round in Morden, Manitoba was looking to keep his momentum going and he delivered in a big way. After qualifying first with a blistering lap time two full seconds quicker than his competition, Maier proceeded to put the hammer down in both motos, opening up a big lead by the time the checkered flag fell. His double moto sweep put him into the points lead in the MX2 Championship. He now sits 6 points ahead of Eric Nye.

Brock Hoyer had a solid day. Not a known sand specialist, he got good starts and put in two consistent motos to score 7th in the first moto and 8th in the second. Strangely, his scores gave him only 9th overall on the day, a testament to his competition's inconsistency in the deep sand.

Nick Evennou had high hopes for the day of joining his teammate, Maier, on the podium but alas, it was not meant to be. After setting fast times in practice, Evennou got pinched off on the start in the first moto and was working his way through the pack when, just like a lot of the other top contenders, he fell victim to the “Gopher Dunes Sand Monster.” Though his moto scores don't reflect the speed he showed, he was happy to make it out unharmed and will focus his sights on returning to the podium next weekend in Quebec.

The team now head's to Ste. Thecle, Quebec for an all new round of the National series, looking to extend their lead atop the MX2 leaderboard.
