Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Pourcel Places 2nd @ Texas’ Freestone MX National

Pourcel wins the opening 250 class moto; Monster/PC/Kawi teammate Tyla Rattray places a solid 7th and Jake Weimer’s inside the top 15 (14th) as well

CARLSBAD, Calif., (June 8, 2009) – Coming off his first career MX National win two weeks ago in northern California, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel, a former FIM MX2 class champion, won the opening moto at Texas’ Freestone Raceway this past weekend, then backed that performance up with a 4th place in the second moto to take 2nd place overall at the event. The 1st/4th effort earned the French great his his third podium finish in as many pro outdoor races this summer.

And with that effort Pourcel remained solidly in 2nd place overall in the 250 class, trailing leader Ryan Dungey by a slim five-point margin (133-127) heading into this weekend’s race in Pa.

“The first moto I got a good start and got out to the lead, which was good,” said Pourcel, who was battling a stomach virus this past weekend. “The second moto I got a bad start and wasn’t really as good on the bike and was tired, so it was not easy for me.”

Holding down solidly in the top ten was Pourcel’s Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki teammate Tyla Rattray. The second of two U.S. motocross ‘rookie veterans’ (Pourcel being the other) on the team, Rattray, himself a former FIM MX2 class World Champ, put his KX250F in the top five (5th) in the opening 250 class moto, then followed it up with a consistent 6th place performance in the second moto for 7th overall.

Rounding out the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki scoring in the top 15 was Jake Weimer. The WSX Lites runner up was 14th overall going 18th/11th.

Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki 250 class racers is this weekend’s High Point MX National in Mt. Morris, Pa., round four of the ’09 Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals.
