Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Pourcel Wins High Point National – Takes Over 250 Points Lead

Pourcel runs it wire-to-wire, going 1-1 to take the overall 250 class win at High Point and wrestles the points lead away from Ryan Dungey, 177-175

CARLSBAD, Calif., (June 15, 2009) – Former FIM MX2 class World Champion Christophe Pourcel (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki) scored his first 1-1 outdoor national performance on the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA MX National tour, tearing up the Pennsylvania countryside and, in the process, taking over the 250 class points lead from Ryan Dungey (177-175).

Pourcel caught a couple breaks, namely a crash by Dungey in the first moto and a race-leading wreck by Trey Canard in the second moto. But the French great was the model of consistency, and obviously fast despite some serious aches and pains, in winning his second overall of the ’09 season.

“I liked supercross a lot and I felt like today was like that. I just got into a rhythm,” said Pourcel after four rounds of 250 class outdoor racing. “I went to my doctor and she told me I have a lot of problems (internally) and it's not going to get better since I was paralyzed. It's not easy to ride like that but I just have to keep doing my best.”

Pourcel’s World Champion teammate on Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki, Tyla Rattray, also ran well on the day – bringing his KX250F home in 4th place. The effort for the former FIM MX2 class World Champ brought him to within several points of Canard for 3rd place overall in the 250 class (139-135).

“High Point’s an excellent track,” commented Rattray on his first time racing at the legendary southern Pennsylvania facility. “Very quick with pretty intense elevation changes. Congrats to Christophe and I look forward to a week off before racing in Colorado.”

Rounding out the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki 250 class scoring was Jake Weimer who placed 32nd overall.

Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki 250 class racers is the June 27th Lakewood (Colo.) MX National, round five of the ’09 Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals.
