Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki Victorious at Montreal Supercross

Matt Goerke takes
team’s first ever Supercross win at Olympic Stadium

Kamloops, BC(October 3, 2011)
This past weekend marked the 34th edition of the annual
Montreal Supercross, the longest running supercross race in North
America and largest indoor race in Canada. The last race on the
Canadian professional calendar, Montreal is always a highlight
circled on the team’s calendar and this year they came into the
race armed with a great chance to win in both classes, with former
MX2 winner, Kyle Beaton, making his return to racing in the MX2 class
after suffering a severe knee injury before the start of the National
season and top contenders, Teddy Maier and Matt Goerke in the MX1
class.

Right from the start of Saturday’s
practice sessions, Goerke showed that he was the man to beat as he
topped both qualifying sessions. The Florida native kept the momentum
going as he won his heat race and carried it into a top five start in
the main event. He quickly worked his way through the pack until he
was in second place and then went to work chipping away on the lead
of early leader, Dusty Klatt. Soon, he caught Klatt as well, made the
pass and pulled away to take his, and the teams, first ever Montreal
win.

Said Goerke after his win, “I’ve
had a bit of a trying year this season as I came back from my
supercross injuries so this win means a lot to me. I’m thankful
that the Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki team stuck behind me
and I could pay back their faith with this win.”

For last year’s second place
finisher, Maier, his night started out great as well as he made it a
Leading Edge sweep by taking the second heat race win. In the main
event he got a mid-pack start and charged hard, working his way up to
4th by the end of the race, finishing just behind the 2nd
and 3rd place finishers.

In the all-Canadian MX2 race, Kyle
Beaton made his return to racing after having full knee
reconstructive surgery before the start of the outdoor season. With
only a couple weeks of time on the bike, the former Montreal winner
was quick during the opening going as he ran in third but eventually
the lack of seat time caught up with him as he dropped back to finish
8th. Still, it was great to have him back on the bike and
he will no doubt be back and looking to take another win in 2012.

With Montreal in the books, the team
wraps up a successful 2011 season. As team owner, Jason Hughes,
reflected on the season he remarked, “Making the commitment to
field an MX1 and MX2 team this season certainly paid off. To win a
MX1 National and the prestigious Montreal Supercross, plus multiple
wins in the MX2 class outdoors is exactly what we set out to do and
we can’t thank all our sponsors enough who believed in us and our
vision. Thanks to all of you!”
