Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki Team Debuts With a Win

Riverside, CA (May 28, 2007) – The first round of the CMRC Monster Energy Motocross Nationals got under way in Ste. Julie, QC. The Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki Racing Team made its debut by winning the overall title with Paul Carpenter standing on top of the podium. Jeff Gibson qualified in third but bad starts relegated him to a seventh overall.

In moto one, the crowd that had gathered around the track were treated to a fierce battle for the lead between Carpenter and Jean Sebastien Roy. Both riders pressured each other to the end and Roy eventually came across the finish line in the lead. Carpenter got another great start in the second moto and he led from start to finish. His win in the second moto gave Carpenter the overall victory for the day.

“I had a good day today. My qualifying times were good and I had a great battle with Roy in moto one,” explained Carpenter. “In the second moto, I wanted to go out and get a good start and try to pull away from the pack. I got the good start and charged very hard for the first few laps, which allowed me to control the pace. After I pulled the gap on the field I just tried to stay consistent and smooth.”

“Both Gibson and Carpenter were fast today,” commented team manager, Derek Sorenson. “Paul could have won both motos and Jeff had the third fastest qualifying time. Unfortunately, Jeff got bad starts so he had to work his way up in both motos. I’m happy for Paul because he is working so hard, but I think we’ll see much more of Jeff up in the front as well.”

The Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki Racing Team will travel to Gopher Dunes in Courtland, Ontario on June 3, for round two of the CMRC Monster Energy Motocross Nationals.
