Metal Mulisha’s Linkogle gives 200 turkeys to families at Marine Corp Air Station Miramar

In the spirit of the holiday season, Metal Mulisha founder and professional freestyle motocross rider Larry Linkogle delivered 200 turkeys to families at Marine Corp Air Station (MCAS) Miramar’s Family Day last Wednesday.

“My dad was in the Army and I learned about all of the sacrifices military personnel endure from him,” Linkogle said. “I really just want the men and women who serve our country and protect our freedom to know how appreciative I am for what they do. They give up so much especially time away from their families. The turkey giveaway is one small way I can I show my support and hopefully help a family enjoy a great holiday meal.”
Linkogle, whose father served in the 101st Airborne Division, reached out to MCAS to find a way to help military families with financial hardship receive a turkey for their holiday dinner. Officials from MCAS invited Linkogle to Family Day, an event to bring families together to recognize the sacrifices the families themselves make to support our country.
“What it means for somebody like Larry to come on base or to come to any Military installation and give back to our Military families is infinite,” said MCAS Youth and Teens Program Manager Alisha Harrison. “It shows that somebody in the community sees what these Military families give up. Our families serve too. For Larry to come here and kind of see the whole full circle, means a lot. It means that the whole family unit is seen and not just the service member.”
Following the turkey giveaway, Linkogle spent time visiting military families, signing autographs and taking photos with kids and his bike.
“My family has been stationed at Miramar for two years now,” said Jennie Siriepathum, a MCAS service member spouse. “It’s very supportive knowing that people do care about what our husbands have to do and sacrifice.”
Linkogle is regarded as the pioneer of the freestyle motocross sport. Competing in contests including ESPN X Games, the Freeride Motocross Championship, and the Zero Gravity Festival.  He currently holds the world long distance motorcycle jump record set in Australia in 2005. His life story was featured in documentary Mind of a Demon: The Larry Linkogle Story which was voted “Best Documentary” at the Slamdance Film Festival and voted best “Jury International Documentary” at the Bel-Air Film Festival.
