The first AMA Supercross of the season was this week-end in the famous Angel Stadium of Anaheim California and the races and battles were epics with super races and suspense.
It was the first race in America for Maxime Desprey # 951 to race the AMA SX 250 championship west coast.
The challenge was big for the French kid, riding here with the best supercross riders on the planet !
For his first ever SX race at the top level of the competition and in the country of Supercross that is USA, Maxime was discovering a complete new environment, track, competitors and it was a really interesting event that Maxime enjoyed a lot even if he had some pressure when coming in a so big American stadium !
The practice went correctly, Max started by learning the track and improved in each session during the afternoon and he could qualify for the night program.
The real thinks is starting at night time when the gate drop for the qualifying heat, only top 9 riders enter the main event directly on 6 laps race !
Maxime did not a good start and was last at the first corner but each lap he passed some guys and came in the last lap in 10th position, then he pushed hard to catch the rider in front of him and passed for 9th only few meters before the finish line ! So he qualified direct for the Main event for his first SX AMA race !
A part of the job was done as Maxime’s first goal was to enter the main event.
The last race of the night was the main event for 15 laps, Maxime did a little better start but was too quiet during the first corners and quickly dropped back in the back of the pack, then he focused on his riding and came back on 15th place after few laps but he made a small mistake in a corner and crashed.
When he started again, he was not in the rhythm and finish the main event in 20th.
Maxime and the team will continue to work this week before going to San Diego next week-end for the second round of the AMA SX championship with the goal to improve each race and go closer and closer from the top guys every time.
Darian Sanayei # 98 is still out or some weeks, we don’t know exactly when he will be back on the bike but until he comes back, we hope to find a replacement young rider to give him the chance to show his potential on the track and to complete the team with Maxime.
