Press Release

Latvian Grand Prix confirmed until 2013-MXoN in 2014

LIEROP
(THE NETHERLANDS)
, 4 September 2010 – During the 14th round of the
FIM Motocross World Championship in Lierop, Youthstream and the
Baltic Cup Foundation renewed their agreement for the organization of
the Latvian Grand Prix until 2013. In 2014 instead the country is set
to host the FIM Motocross of Nations.

Motocross in Latvia has
improved in an outstanding way in the last few years thanks to the
effort of many parties, but especially thanks to the support of the
fans, the will of the organizers and the crucial support from the
Latvian Government and the Latvian Motorcyclists Federation.

2009
was the first time Latvia hosted a Grand Prix and after such two
successful experiences in Kegums, Youthstream and the organizing
committee, the Baltic Cup Foundation, have extended the contract
until 2013. Besides, Latvia will have the honour of organizing one of
the most important events in Motocross as they will run the FIM
Motocross of Nations in 2014.

Mr. Giuseppe Luongo, the
President of Youthstream, stated: “We do think that Latvia is a
very good venue, the collaboration and organization is very good, the
support of the Government is great and the relationship with the
Federation is also very good. Besides, Latvia is in a part of Europe
where Motocross has developed a lot and it is located in a strategic
position. For this reason we signed the Nations for 2014 and we are
sure that it will be a successful event as well as the Grand Prix.
This extension of our agreement will be very good also for the
economy of the country, because bringing the Nations to Latvia means
to bring around 70 thousand people from all over the World and bring
economical benefits to all the region. I want to say thanks to all
the Latvian people who have believed in our project and I am sure we
will have a big success.”

President of Baltic Cup
Foundation Mr. Salvis Freimanis commented: “We all reach a
historical moment in the development of Latvian Motocross by signing
this contract including the FIM Motocross of Nations in 2014. About
20 years ago we had a dream of organizing a GP of sidecars in Latvia
and Dr. Wolfgan Srb supported the idea in ‘95 and ‘96.
Sidecarcross in Latvia was like a mission impossible, but we had an
aim and we developed it and reached it, and now the FIM MX World
Championship is a reality. Everything was done in the best way we
could and we progressed to reach more and more and now we are signing
the contract for the Nations in 2014. Of course we have a lot to do
to prepare the venue in an excellent way for the MXoN, but I do
believe that we will do it.”

FIM/CMS President Dr.
Wolfgang Srb ended: “The strong will can move mountains and what
was impossible 15 years ago, it is possible now courtesy of the
strong spirit of Salvis. To have the FIM Motocross of Nations in
Latvia in a very short time now is a dream that has come true but
dreams do not come true automatically, behind every dream there is a
strong man with strong will and a huge amount of work. I am very
happy that they have achieved their goals, and what was a dream many
years ago it is now a reality. Congratulations, it is going to be the
biggest event Latvia and the Baltic countries have ever seen.”
