KEGUMS (LATVIA), 27 June 2010 – Youthstream was honored to host Latvia’s Prime Minister Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis while attending the second Latvian Grand Prix in the history of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Kegums. After saluting the crowd in the opening ceremony, the country’s representative discussed the future of Motocross in Latvia with Youthstream and FIM and finally enjoyed a brilliant Latvian Grand Prix.

Spending a busy day at Kegums’ Zelta Zirgs race track, Prime Minister Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis took the chance to talk to the many Latvian fans at Kegums during the Grand Prix’s opening ceremony and confirmed the country’s interest and commitment towards the sport of Motocross. The ceremony was attended also by Youthstream’s President Mr. Giuseppe Luongo, FIM/CMS President Dr. Wolfgang Srb, Latvian Motorcycling Federation President Mr. Egils Agarskis, President of Baltic Cup Foundation Mr. Salvis Freimanis and ended with the traditional horses parade reminding of the race track name’s origins (Zelta Zirgs actually means Golden Horses).

Afterwards the delegation moved on to meet Mr. Luongo and Dr. Srb in private, with whom they discussed the development of Motocross in the country. With a top class race track, a strong organizing committee and lots of loyal passionate fans being joined by those of the neighbor countries such as Estonia and Lithuania, Latvia has a bright future ahead. During the meeting the possibility of organizing the Motocross of Nations was also explored.

After watching the Grand Prix races, the Prime Minister was on the podium to award the winners of the Latvian Grand Prix.

Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis, Prime Minister of Latvia, stated: “Motocross in Latvia has a very strong tradition and the fact that we have hosted such event twice in a row proves that the sport is developing notoriously. No doubt that the presence of a Championship of such level in our country helps to develop Motocross in Latvia, that is why I would like to thank FIM, Youthstream, Latvian Motorcycling Federation and Baltic Cup Foundation for the big work done here in Zelta Zirgs.”

Mr. Giuseppe Luongo, President of Youthstream, continued: “I really want to thank the Prime Minister and the whole Latvian Government for their support to our great sport. The organizer has made something fantastic and the venue is one of the most beautiful in the world. I also want to thank the spectators coming from Latvia and the neighbor countries, it is fantastic to live such a great day of sport all together. We really believe that this track will have a very long career together with us; we are talking to make motocross here every year but also in a near future to bring to this venue the Motocross of Nations.”

Dr. Wolfgang Srb, President of FIM/CMS, added: “Over the years, Kegums has been developed into one of the prime locations and prime venues in the world. Let me thank the Government, the Cup and the Federation for their support and especially Salvis, who is the driving force behind all these activities.”

Mr. Salvis Freimanis, President of Baltic Cup Foundation, ended: “Thanks to the Government for their support and trust, we hope to be together in organizing the Motocross of Nations in the future. To have such an event here is something huge. It will be possible only if we do it together, and we hope we can do it well.”
