Lancelot grabs victory at Great Britain while Fontanesi wins the Title

MATTERLEY BASIN (Great Britain), 18 August 2012 – The British round was the penultimate race of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship and Chiara Fontanesi was already proclaimed the 2012 WMX World Champion after being second overall at Matterley Basin.

The Italian dominated the first race, but it was Livia Lancelot who won the second one, as the Italian crashed in the opening lap and she could only finish third. Natalie Kane completed the podium.

Today Fontanesi has accomplished one of her dreams becoming the 2012 WMX World Champion, but she had a bittersweet feeling as she was not able to win the second heat. However, the Italian did an incredible second race because after she crashed in the opening lap, she succeeded in moving from the very last position up to third.

After Fontanesi’s crash, only Natalie Kane was able to race together with Lancelot, but the French rider opened a big gap already from the start and she led the race until the chequered flag. Natalie Kane did all her best to catch the French rider, but in the end Kane decided to ride safe and assure the second position, which would give her the overall third place.

German rider Anne Borchers is getting better in every race and one of the main reasons could be the fact that she is training together with Natalie Kane. Today Borchers was riding in the top three, but Fontanesi overtook her and she finished in fourth.

One of the girls who is working really hard is Britt van der Wekken, who showed really good speed this weekend and she was able to cross the finish line fifth today and obtained a solid fifth overall position.

Francesca Nocera had a really good start today and she rode fourth during the first three laps, but she dropped down to fifth when Fontanesi overtook her. Van der Wekken was coming really strong from behind and Nocera had to settle down with sixth. However, the Italian finished thirteenth overall because she could not score any points in the first race on Thursday.

Virginie Germond obtained two solid seventh positions, which gave her the overall sixth place, Justine Charroux was seventh, Stacey Fisher eighth and Sophia Paull and Selina Schittenheim completed the top ten.
