Lancelot Faces German trio Laier, Papenmeier, Franke on Their Home Soil

FUNCHAL (PORTUGAL), 17 June 2009 – A strong Lancelot leads the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship into Teutschenthal, round five of seven.

Racing at home, Laier, Papenmeier and Franke, who are currently completing the top four in the Championship, look forward to the weekend as they will try to chip away at the gap from Lancelot.

Winning in France, Lancelot made sure to face Teutschenthal with a stronger Championship lead over runner up Laier, who had won the previous round in Spain and was on her way to reach the defending Champion. Though the top three riders are spread in just 37 points, which is an exciting preview for the remaining three rounds with a total of 150 points up for grabs.

Lancelot’s season as Defending Champion is unveiling to be her most successful campaign as the Kawasaki Racing’s French is looking stronger than the previous seasons. The home victory in France was surely a confidence booster for the Parisian entering this weekend’s German round, where her closest rivals in the Championship will exploit the home ground advantage to move closer.

Being currently runner up, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Laier was the overall winner in Teutschenthal last year, when she mounted on the top of the podium for the third consecutive round – though an injury prevented her from racing round one and that probably hampered the whole season.

This year the German, who is 24 points behind Lancelot, has been struggling more even though she is focused on the remainder of the Championship starting with her home event.

Other German Papenmeier sits in third. The Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2 rider has been taking back to back podiums since round two in Portugal but was not on the rostrum last year at Teutschenthal, the venue where she took her first overall win back in the Women’s World Cup times in 2007.

Kawasaki Elf Pfeil’s Maria Franke is fourth in the Championship ahead of Mann.

South African speed star Nanda Swiegers will make her debut in the series this weekend
