Klatt and Gibson Make Main Event For Cernic’s Kawasaki

Riverside, CA, (February 19, 2008) – For the first time this year, both Cernic’s Kawasaki team riders lined up for racing during round seven of the Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM Championship.  Almost 50,000 fans at Reliant Stadium in Houston, TX saw Jeff Gibson and Dusty Klatt secure positions in the main event of the premiere Supercross class.

Dusty Klatt returned to racing action after suffering a shoulder injury just before the season opener and finished with a solid sixteenth place finish.  Jeff Gibson continues to improve and finished in thirteenth position, his best finish of the year.

Gibson qualified directly from his heat race while it took Klatt a little longer to get acclimated to fast paced racing again.  Klatt took the final qualifying spot in the last chance qualifier race to advance to the main event.

In the main event, Gibson didn’t get a good jump out of the gate but stayed tight on the inside of the track through the first couple of turns.  This move helped him pass quite a few riders and moved him into the top fifteen.  After moving up to tenth position on lap four he made a few mistakes and fell back to thirteenth.

“Tonight, we moved in the right direction,” explained Gibson.  “The track was really tough and I felt like I finally rode a pretty decent race.  I still have some work to do but I’ll be ready for Atlanta.”

Klatt rode strong and accomplished his goal of making the main event.  “I did what I wanted to do this weekend,” said Klatt after the race.  “It feels good just to be out there competing with those guys again so I was satisfied with the result.  I’m going to keep working hard this week and be ready to race next Saturday.”

“The guys rode well tonight,” said team owner Billy Whitley.  “Jeff rode better than he has all year and Dusty was able to dust off some of those cobwebs and still made the main.  Next week we’ll work on some things and hope to break that top ten again.”

In addition to the two Cernic’s Kawasaki riders, Parker Whitley competed in the KTM Jr. Supercross Challenge.  Parker is the son of team owner, Billy Whitley and he finished third in the KTM Junior Supercross Challenge.

The Cernic’s Kawasaki Racing Team will travel to the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA next week for round eight of the Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM Championship on February 23, 2008.
