Kevin Strijbos scores best result of the season at the Swedish Grand Prix

Amsterdam
-
Beursfoon Suzuki rider Kevin
Strijbos scored his best result of the season at round ten of the
World Championship Series at Uddevalla in Sweden last weekend.
Strijbos rode two strong motos and came home in eight and seventh
position which gave him eight place overall.

Kevin was motivated to do
well in Sweden. The Belgian rider wasn’t happy with his results at
the Latvian Grand Prix so he was determined to do better in Sweden.
The weekend started out really well for Strijbos with a seventh
place in free practice and an eleventh place in the pre qualifying
session. In the qualifying heat he took a decent start and came out
of the first corner just inside of the top fifteen. Strijbos passed
some riders in front of him and moved into thirteenth position. His
charge trough the field ended when he lost his rhythm. Kevin stayed
calm and things started to go better in the closing stages of the
race. He managed to pass some riders and crossed the finish line in
fourteenth position.

In the first moto he took a
good start but because of his bad starting position he had to go
wide in the first corner and this cost him several positions. He
came out of the first corner around fifteenth position. Kevin felt
at home on the circuit in Uddevalla and worked himself up to eight
position in which he finished.

The start of the second moto
was better and this time he started the race in tenth position. In
the beginning of the race he worked himself up to eight position.
Strijbos rode a consistent race and managed to pass another rider in
the closing stages of the race to finish the race in seventh
position.

Kevin finished eight overall
and sits in eleventh position in the World Championship Standings.
The Spaniard Jose Butron failed to score points in the MX2 class.
After his shoulder injury his riding is starting to go better each
week but in Sweden some bad luck kept him out of the points. In the
practice sessions things went well for Jose with a 20th
and 21st position in the sessions respectively. In the
qualifying heat he crashed in the opening lap and he had to charge
back trough the field. Because the track was really fast it was
difficult to make up time on the other riders. Jose gave everything
he had and finished the race in 27th position.

In the first moto he took a
very good start and came out of the first corner in eleventh
position. Despite the fact that his riding went well in the
beginning of the race he lost several positions. Jose kept fighting
but crashed and dropped back to 21st position. Butron
found his rhythm straight away but another crash ruined his chances
of scoring points. After the crashed he couldn’t restart his bike so
he didn’t score points in the first moto.

In the second moto he came
out of the first lap in eighteenth position. Things weren’t going
well and in the beginning of the race he dropped back to 30th

position. Jose kept pushing and passed several riders during the
race. Despite his effort he finished in 24th position
which wasn’t good enough to score World Championship points. Jose
finished in 29th position overall and sits in 26th

position in the World Championship Standings.

Round eleven of the series
will be held at Lommel in Belgium in August 1.
