KTM to continue form as MX Nationals resume at Hervey Bay

KTM contenders will resume their bid for supremacy in the MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, when the series enters its second half at Hervey Bay in Queensland on Sunday, 1 July.

Fresh from a career-first MX2 overall victory last time out at Murray Bridge in May, JDR/KTM Factory Racing rider Josh Cachia will enter the Sunshine State with a renewed confidence this weekend.

Currently ranked fifth in the series to date, Cachia is certain that his win in South Australia will provide the ultimate boost that he’s been looking for in a bid to consistently race for victory.

“I think I’ve always got confidence coming into a race, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out the way I want it to,” Cachia explained. “Now I know I can win and there’s no excuse for me to not keep on doing so. I’m really looking forward to trying to back that up this weekend.”

Cachia will again be the lone factory KTM rider on a 250 SX-F, with Brenden Harrison not scheduled to return until at least round seven while recovering from pre-season surgery. Ryan Marmont also continues to recover from injuries suffered during the season’s first half.

JDR/KTM Factory Racing will also field Brisbane’s Dan Reardon in the MX1 ranks aboard a 450 SX-F. The 2007 series champion is ranked 10th in the standings at this point, determined to gain good results and climb the ladder in the closing rounds.

KTM features a strong presence in the MX Development category for Under 19s competitors, with Choice Motorsports rider Dylan Long leading the points race into Hervey Bay.

The Victorian has been consistently quick all season and hopes to hold on for his first senior national title, riding the KTM 250 SX-F four-stroke in a field that features a fine mix of 250 SX two-strokes as well.

“It’s been awesome and I couldn’t have asked for much more,” Long said of the season’s first half. “I've just had a bit of bad luck in some of the sprint races, but other than that I’ve been working forward and being as close to the front as I can.”

Also in the top 10 after four of nine rounds for the MXD division are KTM riders Kayne Lamont in second, Dylan Leary in third, Joel Milesevic in sixth and Kale Makeham in seventh – all aboard the 250 SX.

Hervey Bay’s round this weekend will mark the sixth of 10 stops for the 2012 season.
