This weekend saw KTM Factory junior team rider, Jeremy Van Horebeek, travel to the magnificent circuit of Sevlievo in Bulgaria. Following last week’s podium at the Grand Prix opener in the deep mud of Italy, the ‘Jerre’ arrived in sunny Bulgaria geared up to drive forward his World Title campaign.
In Saturdays short qualifying race Jeremy took a hard fall at the top of the circuit as he was battling for position on lap 1. Having to make a pit stop to repair part of the bike a disappointed Van Horebeek was put out of contention in that race and back in 35th position for the Sunday main race gate picks.
Sunday morning started with a lot of pain for Jeremy as he was really hurt from the Saturday qualifying race crash. After some time with the physio the ‘Jerre’ had enough movement in his shoulder to race the grueling 35 minute and 2 lap heat 1.
In heat 1 Jeremy had to start on the outside gate, giving him a huge amount of work to do as he exited the first corner way down in the pack. Through sheer determination he pushed hard on the opening laps managing to capitalize on making up positions, getting into 13th position by the end of lap one. From this point it got tough to make up positions easily and Jeremy only managed to get into 12th position over the next 20 minutes. Pushing hard to make a pass the determined Belgian lost his front wheel going into a corner and went down. At this late point in the race this put him out of contention of gaining any points in the race as he finished in 30th position.
Unfortunately the day only got worse for Van Horebeek in the second heat. The pain from his injured shoulder was just too much to bear on the rough hard pack circuit, and after just a couple of laps a disappointed Jeremy Van Horebeek had to pull out of the race.
We spoke briefly to Jeremy after the race: ”The weekend started well for me and I felt great on the bike in practice. I had a fall though in qualifying that just re aggravated an old injury and that pretty much put an end to my weekend. After that I was just battling to even hold on to the bike with pain.”
Van Horebeek will return to Belgian for further medical examinations before making the call to race round 3 in Turkey in a weeks time:
