Jacob Williamson: Qualifies for 250SX East Main Event in Detroit; Earns fill-in ride on Team Legends and Heroes Kawasaki

The Legends and Heroes Kawasaki team saw something in Williamson.

Rookie is thankful for the opportunity

In just his 2nd ever 250SX East Supercross attempt, Jacob Williamson achieved his life-long goal of qualifying for the main event of a professional Monster Energy AMA Supercross race. The day started well, with Jake qualifying 21st after the combined qualifying sessions were completed. This would give him a decent gate pick for the heat race.

In the heat race, Jake did not get the greatest of starts and had to work his way up through the pack. He would finish up in the final transfer spot in 9th place. Jake had punched his ticket into the main.

The main event was good for the full-time high school senior as he went on to finish in 16th place for the night. He will use this experience as a stepping stone and looks to improve heading into the next round in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Detroit Supercross was a solid learning experience for Jake and he found some areas where he needs to improve to better his results. He hired a cardio trainer, Demetrios, and has been training regularly with him in order to build stamina to stay strong for the entire 15-lap main event. He felt a bit tired towards the end of the main in Detroit and his new training regimen will help that. He also needed some help with suspension set-up, enter Vaughn from MMCR who provided Jake with A-kit suspension for his Kawasaki and Tim from TCD Suspension to get it set up to his liking.

Jake's performances in Toronto and Detroit did not go unnoticed. He caught the eye of the Legends and Heroes Kawasaki team, who have decided to give him a fill-in ride for the remainder of the 250SX East Coast Supercross Series. Jake is excited about the opportunity he has been given and is eager to ride the new bike. He will test it out for the first time at Press Day in Indianapolis. The extra seat time will allow him to get comfortable and make any necessary changes before the gate drops on Saturday night.

When asked about his expectations for Indianapolis, Jake was confident, and made it known that he wants better results going forward. “I am hard on myself, so I was not overly happy with the 16th place in Detroit. The goal is to get better each week and learn with every round. I want to better my finish each week, even if it's only one position better. As long as I am moving forward.”

Jake would like to thank his sponsors for all of the support this season: Team Legends and Heroes/Lasco Ford/MMCR/TCD/Arai/AXO/100%/PRMX/Mobius/Babbitts/Slakawear/GoPro/Adidas/Cycra/D&D Grips/Speed Graphics/Brian Siegrist/Rich Price
