JDR/KTM’s Marmont crowned Prince of the Cross in WA

JDR/KTM Factory Racing’s Ryan Marmont finished second overall during the King of the Cross event in Southern Cross, Western Australia, on Sunday, 5 August.

The result earned Marmont the title of ‘Prince of the Cross’ for 2012, competing aboard a KTM 250 SX-F amongst a host of 450cc opponents during the all-important final motos.

Upon return from injury that has seen him skip the majority of the Australian Motocross Championships, Marmont commenced his King of the Cross campaign with a sweep of three Pro Lites motos.

The final two motos awarded double points toward the King of the Cross crown, with Marmont managing a third in the first final and fourth in the second. Those results sealed him second overall for the weekend.

“It was a great race for me to do with no expectations or pressure in my return from injury,” Marmont explained. “I got the opportunity to go and race, so myself and mechanic Danny Apro flew over. It was good to race and I felt good all in all.

“The 250 SX-F definitely turned a lot of heads on race day with two awesome starts against the 450s. Once we were on the track there wasn’t a whole heap in it because although the open bikes had more power, the 250F’s handling came into its own around the corners.”

Marmont is hoping to return to the MX Nationals when the series reaches its penultimate round on 19 August at Moree in New South Wales, but isn’t a certain starter at this point.

“I haven’t finalised it with the team, but it’s just a matter of me putting together a solid week and a half of training before Moree to ensure I’m ready,” Marmont added. “I’m trying to get as much bike time as I can and my body is holding up well, so we’ll do an assessment next week and if all looks good I’ll be there.”
