This weekend will see the Honda World Motocross team head to Kegums, Latvia for round ten of the MX1 World Championship with riders Rui Gonçalves and Evgeny Bobryshev looking for strong results at the popular circuit.
After a weekend to forget in Sweden with neither rider completing race one and Gonçalves scoring seventh in race two, while Bobryshev sat out of proceedings with a puncture injury to his right arm, both factory CRF 450R racers are hoping to turn things around this weekend.
Kegums has seen both riders succeed in previous seasons with Gonçalves winning the MX2 Grand Prix in 2009, and Bobryshev earning a podium finish, his third in a row, with third overall last year. It’s a popular event, with Russian fans coming across the border to support their sole MX1 representative in the build up to his first home Grand Prix the following weekend. Gonçalves went 7-4 aboard his Honda machine last year for fourth overall.
The weather for this weekend isn’t looking good with rain forecasted on both Saturday and Sunday, but the team will be hoping for an improvement in the expected conditions as they head nearer the event.

“Latvia is a good GP and a good track with it being a little bit sandy. It has nice jumps and a good crowd, so it will be fun. This week has been good as I did the Xtreme Academy training school on Monday in Ireland, then some practice on Wednesday. My injuries are still there; my rib hurts when I breathe deeply, but I can say it’s a lot better and I think sooner or later it will be completely healed, which will make things easier. In the past few GP’s I haven’t had much luck, but I’m going this weekend in a good mood and I hope things turn around so I can be where I want to be. We are also hoping for a dry race, as we’ve had so much bad weather already this year.”

“The last Grand Prix in Sweden wasn’t as good as I was expecting with the injury I got to my arm and I had one week off because of the pain. Then on Monday we started training properly on the bike, which was okay, but still there is pain in the skin, as the tissue is damaged, so it hurts on the jumps. I did a race in Estonia on Wednesday and I won all three motos after a big battle with Tanel Leok. I enjoyed the day, as it was good fun to race like this and it was also good training for Latvia. I’ve also got back to doing some physical training and at Latvia I really like the track, as I have a good feeling with good speed here. I hope it doesn’t rain, as at the moment the weather forecast isn’t so good, but then every weekend it seems to be raining so we are getting used to it. I’m really looking for a result, and I really want to get on the box.”
