Utah’s Pierce Brown delivers Cobra’s first-ever 65cc class championship at Loretta’s … also the first-ever by an American motorcycle bike manufacturer!

HILLSDALE, Mich., – American motocross racing history was made this past weekend at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Tennessee when Utah’s Pierce Brown – aboard the Cobra Moto CX65 – won the first-ever 65cc class amateur national motocross title on an American-made dirt bike.

And in addition to Brown’s amazing success in the 65cc class at the annual running of the Red Bull Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL , Cobra Moto also got titles from California’s Ryder Di Francesco and Michigan’s Jaiden Taylor. Di Francesco, who became the first-ever racer to win back-to-back 51cc (4-6) AMA 1 class title since the class’ inception in 1997, flat out dominated his class, going 1^st/1^st/1^st in the three moto overall format. Taylor, though not the fastest in the 51cc (7-8) AMA 2 class (that honor went to Cobra’s Gage Linville), was fast and consistent, which paid off in the form of his first-ever Loretta’s national championship aboard the legendary Cobra King 50.

65cc (7-9) Stock

With good starts and relentless pursuit of the racers in front of him, Brown didn’t just win the 65 7-9 Stock class – he ruled it.

Leading the first moto by nearly 30 seconds at the end of the race sent home a message – one that even a fall (and subsequent 15-second margin-of-victory over 2^nd place) would back up. Two more motos with roughly nine-second victories later and Brown and the Cobra CX65 had swept the class with a 1^st/1^st/1^st effort for Cobra’s first-ever 65cc class overall win at Loretta’s.

“The Browns were a perfect match for us to further develop the Cobra CX65,” said Sean Hilbert, President of Cobra Moto. “Pierce has always been good, but this is the first time he’s been dominant. He grew a lot and we had to work on that with them, but Pierce worked hard on his end and that really motivated us. And we both peaked at the right time.”

In racing to the class victory Brown topped former Cobra racer and all-time 50cc AMA 1 & 2 class wins leader Stilez Robertson (2^nd).

Also running well on the American-made Cobra CX65 were Florida’s Tommy Rios, who placed 6^th overall in the 65cc (10-11) Mod class, and Wyoming’s Braden Bruce, who was 6^th in the class won by Brown.

51cc (4-6) AMA 1

Not since Cobra’s Davi Millsaps won back-to-back 50cc class Loretta’s in 1996-’97 has a rider dominated two years in a class like Di Francesco did on the CX50 Jr. this past weekend. Despite falling in the first moto (and eventually coming back to win), Di Francesco ran flawlessly en route to his second ‘Little Guys’ championship.

Joining Di Francesco on the all-Cobra AMA 1 class podium were New York’s Nick Romano (2^nd) and Maryland’s Noah Geyer. Noteworthy: In all kids on Cobra CX50 Jr. bikes took places 1^st through 19^th in the AMA 1 class!

51cc (7-8) AMA 2

“A very consistent week with good starts – and he stayed on two wheels,” said Hilbert on Taylor. The eight-year old from Lansing, Mich. was poised to make the overall podium, then took advantage of a DNF by Cobra Moto factory rider Linville in the opening moto in order to capture the overall AMA 2 class victory – the first Loretta’s title of his young MX career.

Linville would come roaring back and lock down the next two AMA 2 class moto victories with authority, but the damage had been done in the opening moto and he’d have to settle for 12^th place overall (DNF/1^st/1^st).

The runner-up in AMA 2 was on a Cobra King 50 as well. Seven-year-old Reed Cooper (New York) podiumed in all three motos (3^rd/3^rd/3^rd) and will return for 2013 in the same class! Noteworthy: Had Linville not DNF’d the first moto Cobra would have easily swept the top three podium spots in AMA 2.
