Franke Wins Maiden Race in Loket

LOKET
(CZECH REPUBLIC)
, 7 August 2010 – Maria Franke achieved her maiden
heat victory in a dramatic scenario in Loket where the rain was
almost the main protagonist. Second was current red plate holder
Stephanie Laier, who managed to be the fastest in the time practice
session, and third was French Livia Lancelot.

Diga KTM’s
Franke took the holeshot from the outside and led the race from
beginning to end being even nine seconds ahead of Laier at a certain
stage in the race. The German starred in a striking ending of race
one, with her compatriot Laier closing the gap surprisingly quickly.
However, Franke managed to keep the rhythm and overcome Laier’s
pressure, going out with her maiden victory in the FIM Women’s
Motocross World Championship.

Franke’s best result this
season was the two second places achieved in Bulgaria and Portugal at
the beginning of the Championship. The German is now third in the
standings tied in points with fourth classified Papenmeier and 50
points behind the leader Laier.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s
Laier was the fastest on Saturday’s time practice but she could
only be second in race one. The German was stuck in the second
position throughout the whole race, but by the end of it she managed
to close the gap with race leader Franke but it was too late for
Laier to overtake.

Having race two still to be done on
Sunday, red plate holder Laier is leading the Championship with 42
points advantage from second classified Lancelot. If the German wins
race two tomorrow in Loket she will depend on her rivals’ results
to be proclaimed the FIM WMX World Champion with still one more round
to go in Fermo.

KTM HDI MX’s Lancelot had a really
good start on today’s race and managed to ride behind Laier the
whole heat. However, although she rode really close to the German,
she could not overtake her and had to settle down for the third
position.

Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2’s Papenmeier
could not perform an outstanding start today and she was 16th in the
opening lap. However, the German managed to overtake most of her
rivals and finished fourth despite not being 100% after an injury
suffered during a race in Germany. Completing the top five was
Italian Nocera.

Fifth and sixth in the Championship
Fontanesi and Kane were involved in a tumble in the start of race
one. However, they finished ninth and thirteenth respectively and
they both hope to perform a better race tomorrow and improve their
current position in the standings of the Championship.

Tomorrow’s
race is going to be decisive for the resolution of the FIM WMX
Championship, as Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Laier is very likely
to be proclaimed the first new World Champion in the current 2010
season.
