Factory Aprilia Rip It Energy Fuel Racing Looks To Wrap Up Championships

Carlson on Verge of Individual Title; Frenchman Bethome and Veteran Aprilia Racer Wiles To Replace Injured Atkins

LOS ANGELES - The Factory Aprilia Rip It Energy Fuel Racing team looks to wrap up the AMA Supermoto Unlimited Individual Riders and Team Championships this weekend as the series heads into its final rounds at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Palm Springs.

Points leader Benny Carlson hopes to nail down the individual riders championship on board his Aprilia 550 SXV backed by Rip It Energy Fuel. Carlson heads into the final weekend doubleheader needing only five points to wrap up the title for the Aprilia Rip it Factory team.

With the manufacturers championship still undecided, Aprilia looks to hold off competitors as it brings its narrow 13-point lead into the final weekend. The team's efforts have been impacted by last weekend's injury to owner and manager Darryl Atkins, who suffered multiple fractures to his left arm during competition at the AMA event in Galevston, Texas.

Atkins, who had been second to Carlson in individual points before the mishap, will be replaced this weekend by French Grand Prix racer Kevin Bethome, fifth-place finisher in the recently concluded World Supermoto Championship.

Also joining the Factory Aprilia Rip It Energy Fuel Racing Team this weekend will be Henry Wiles, who recently competed for Aprilia in the Flat Track and Moto ST endurance racing series.
