Excellent Restart for Pirelli at the Motocross Grand Prix of Latvia in Kegums

In the MXGP Class, Tim Gajser Finishes Second and the Red Plate Remains in Jeffrey Herlings’ Hands. Tom Vialle Wins in MX2 and Continues to Lead the Championship

KEGUMS, Latvia (August 10, 2020) – Five months after the Grand Prix of the Netherlands in Valkenswaard, the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship resumed its journey at Kegums with the Grand Prix of Latvia, the third round of the season and the first of three consecutive races held across the spectacular Baltic track. The long stop has also forced the series to implement a single day race format. To adequately face the sandy and hard-base soil of the 'Zelta Zirgs' circuit, Pirelli riders trusted the excellent performance of the SCORPION MX™ 32™ Mid Soft front tires and the rear SCORPION MX™ Soft combined with medium/hard mousse. From the four classes in action, the Italian manufacturer achieved a total of nine podium finishes out of twelve and supported more than half of the competitors that lined-up behind the gate.

Tim Gajser was runner-up in the MXGP class. The reigning champion won the first moto but then suffered a crash in the second, which prevented him from fighting for the overall victory. There was an excellent performance also by Jeremy Seewer who finished fourth, just two points from the third step of the podium. A couple of crashes at the start forced Jeffrey Herlings to make a pair of spectacular comebacks that allowed him to finish fifth and maintain first position in the championship standings.

Tom Vialle captured a second consecutive victory in the MX2 class. First and second place results in the two races, the Frenchman kept hold of the red plate. Just behind him were a strong Roan Van De Moosdijk and Mathys Boisrame who finished second and third in the overall classification. Ben Watson claimed fifth position, just ahead of his teammate and second moto winner Jago Geerts.

Pirelli took fantastic results in the second round of the EMX250 European Championship with Frenchman Thierry Benistant tasting victory and also leaping to the top of the championship point standings. Third place overall went to Isak Gifting who sits second in the series.

Pirelli dominated the overall podium of the first round of the newly born EMXOpen European Championship with victory by Latvian rider Toms Macuks, second place by Karel Kutsar and the third obtained by Andero Lusbo.

The fourth round of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship, the Grand Prix of Riga, will be held on Wednesday, the second of three races in a row hosted at Kegums.
