East Coast Momentum in Full Swing as Pirelli Riders Race into Daytona

ROME, Ga. (USA) March 3, 2016 – The Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, is set to take place at Daytona International Speedway in sunny Daytona Beach, Florida this Saturday, March 5, for Round 9 of 17. For the first and only time this season, riders will line up to compete at a venue held outside of the traditional stadium setting. As one of the most physically demanding circuits on the schedule, their will be no shortage of challenges as riders prepare for longer than average lap-times and conditions that break down more than usual due to its sandy soil.

A successful weekend for BTO Sports/WPS/KTM in Atlanta witnessed both of their riders in the race to season-best finishes. In front of his hometown crowd, Davi Millsaps used a fourth place finish to earn his second top-five finish of the season. He is a former 250SX winner in Daytona.

Following his teammate across the line was Justin Brayton who settled into the fifth position after battling with his teammate throughout the race. He heads to Daytona full of confidence from his first 450SX Heat Race win and Main Event top-five finish of the season.

Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha’s Weston Peick continues to race himself back into shape after missing the first couple of rounds to start the season. He has proven himself on outdoor style tracks in the past, which match up well with his aggressive riding style and could be the start of his march towards the front.

BTO Sports/WPS/KTM’s Andrew Short will be absent from this weekend’s entry list after suffering a concussion during a crash with JGRMX’s Phil Nicoletti in 450SX Heat 2 at Atlanta. Nicoletti will make a late week decision about racing this weekend, while Short is out indefinitely.

After nearly six years since his last 250SX Class start, Jimmy Albertson put in an impressive top-10 finish to start the 250SX Eastern Regional Championship. The softer terrain and fast paced layout this weekend should accommodate the Motorcycle Superstore Suzuki rider. Kyle Cunningham has a weekend of 450SX Class experience under his belt and is looking improve on his result this weekend.

A surgically repaired collarbone left MAD Racing/Dirt Candy Graphics/Suzuki’s Matt Bisceglia with minimal preparation time heading into the Eastern Regional 250SX Class opener. He was able to score valuable points and we expect to see him get stronger with each race. Privateer Marshal Weltin has his sights set on the top-10 as he looks to build on last weeks Main Event finish.

Supercross action from the Daytona International Speedway gets underway on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 7 p.m. PT and can be viewed on FS1. Check local listings for channel information.
