EMX2: Christophe Charlier Unstoppable Again

TALAVERA DE LA REINA (SPAIN), 19 April 2009 – Christophe Charlier (France) from the Yamaha team Gariboldi Racing clinched his second following win and he is leading the EMX2 European Championship with all the 100 points. Jeffrey Herlings (KTM, Netherlands) was second, Herjan Brakke (Honda, Netherlands) was third.

It was a sunny and warm day in Talavera de la Reina. On Saturday’s Qualifying day riders were competing on the muddy race track. On the race day conditions were better and many spectators were all around the track. Charlier was amazing also at the second EMX2 European Championship event. He is riding reliably, fast and it seems that nothing can stop him. Charlier started the first race in front of Herlings. He was trying to catch Charlier, what was not possible because Charlier’s advantage was bigger in every lap. Third was Matthias Walkner (KTM, Austria).

EMX2 first start

The second race had began with the uncompromising start of Charlier, who let all the riders far behind. Herlings had same plans as in the first race – to catch Charlier. Also the second time he did not succeed, after he took a bad start. Herlings finished third and was disappointed, because he was decided to win. Second was Herjan Brakke (Honda) from Netherlands. Brakke was fast from the very beginning. He held out all the attacks of Herlings. Brakke hopes that he will continue with top results. Charlier took his second overall win. Herlings was second, Brakke finished third, Walkner was fourth and Mike Kras (Kawasaki) was fifth.

In the EMX2 European Championship Charlier is leading with 14 points in front of the second Herlings and already 39 points in front of third Brakke. Fourth is Kras and Walkner is fifth.

RIDER'S COMMENTS

1st CHRISTOPHE CHARLIER (France): »I was enjoying today here in Talavera de la Reina. My Yamaha bike was perfect prepared again, I am in a good physical condition, so everything is just great at the moment. I had been hoping to take the new win but I was not thinking I will be so successful for the one more time. I am leading the Championship and this is very important.«

2nd JEFFREY HERLINGS (Netherlands): »I am disappointed of my result. I was training a lot at similar tracks and I was only second. I liked the track. I could not win today although I am used to compete in those conditions. I hope it will be better already in Portugal. The bike is good but I was not riding as I should. Of course I am happy to get the second place but this is not what I want.«

3rd HERJAN BRAKKE (Netherlands): » Yesterday I had some problems with the bike and I was not riding as good as today. Today we improved settings of the bike. Also conditions were much better, yesterday there was water on some parts of the track. In the first race I lost the third position in the last lap. I would like thank to my team for their help. I took the podium on the second event already, what I think is very good.«
