Dunlop Announces New Tyre Developed Alongside The Honda World Motocross Team

Looks like Dunlop is making some forward progress in the GP paddock. Over the last few years, you'd find that the majority of GP teams were using Pirelli and Michelin tires, with Dunlops playing the underdog role. –VMX

The Honda World Motocross team is proud to be part of the research programme for its team partners, including the development of the all-new Dunlop Geomax MX11F front sand tyre, which is being launched this weekend at round one of the World MX1 Championship in Valkenswaard, The Netherlands.

The MX11F tyre delivers class-leading grip and is a substantial step-up in the competition, especially for cornering and straight-line traction, which demonstrates Dunlop’s ‘Ride With Confidence’ philosophy.

During the relationship with Dunlop, the Honda World Motocross team’s factory CRF 450R machines use test prototype rubber so riders Evgeny Bobryshev and Rui Gonçalves can give feedback to engineers throughout the design process of the tyres, which then are refined to go on sale to the general public.

The racetrack is certainly used for many areas of development of the race machines and parts, some of which then eventually reach the consumer market for use by off-road enthusiasts or racers and the announcement of the MX11F tyre is a good demonstration of the strong partnership between the Honda World Motocross team and Dunlop.

Honda’s World Motocross team riders Bobryshev and Gonçalves both played critical roles in perfecting the MX11 tyre throughout the testing process: “It’s important to have a soft surface tyre you can trust; one that holds the line and doesn’t move about,” says Bobryshev. “Over the last 18 months we’ve been working with the Dunlop team to refine and refine it and now what we have is the best front tyre I’ve used in those conditions. The MX11 combines all the things we’ve told them into an awesome package,” concluded Gonçalves.

This innovating new tyre excels in sandy conditions with improved stability on uneven surfaces and a top-level performance in all key areas. The cross-shaped blocks on the front of the MX11F tyre boost angular force resistance and extend the life of the tyre, along with its other features, which offer better stability and traction. The MX11 tyre is now available in 80/100-21 front and 110/90-19 rear sizes.

As many riders from amateur to pro-level will understand, a top quality pair of tyres will not only improve acceleration and traction, but also drastically improve the braking, cornering, bump absorption and overall handling of the machine.

“Rider confidence is everything,” says Sharon Antonaros, Director Dunlop Motorcycle EMEA. “Since 2007, our approach at Dunlop has been to create products that generate confidence from being in control, and from being able to rely on your tyres.

“The new MX11F not only meets these criteria, it exceeds them. The best motocross tyre is the one you can forget about, the one that lets you simply ride with the full knowledge that your tyres will do their job and get you through - the MX11 is that tyre.”

“Our search for new ways to resolve tough motocross challenges is ongoing,” says Patrice Omont, Director, Tyre Technology, Dunlop Motorsport and Motorcycle."The MX11 is the result of a long look at all the forces that act on an MX tyre – and there are plenty of them. This tyre represents the coming together not just of Dunlop thoughts and experience but also of Honda’s works riders and technicians.”
