Division7/Star Racing/Yamaha - Houston Supercross

Houston, TX (January 24, 2009)- The AMA Supercross series went to the mid west over the weekend, visiting Houston, Texas’ Reliant Stadium. Division 7/Star Racing/Yamaha showed up eagerly awaiting to unleash their two East coast representatives consisting of #41 Matt Lemoine and #159 Darryn Durham. . The day started out fairly well for both riders, although making the most noise was Lemoine who put down an impressive lap time as 4th fastest in timed qualifying. Rookie rider Durham, adapted nicely by setting the 10th quickest timed qualifying lap.

Slated into Heat #1, Durham salvaged a mediocre start but showed all he had to offer by putting down a super aggressive and inspiring ride up to 6th, making the main event in first attempt. Heat #2 brought our more experienced rider up next. Lemoine had been feeling confident all day and it showed when he reeled off a great start and settled into the 2nd spot. Immediately, Lemoine started to apply pressure to the race leader with raw speed, and even took the race lead for a brief moment. After filing back into the 2nd position following a few mistakes, Lemoine regained his composure and went back after the number one position. Unfortunately, time ran out and he was narrowly edged out having to cross the checkers in 2nd.

When the gate dropped in the main event, this time it was Durham who wasted no time in getting out front and sitting in the 2nd position, Lemoine though was in unfamiliar territory, 12th, because of a slow jump out of the gate. Upfront, Durham was establishing himself as a contender by holding his own, when he got jumped into while trying to make a pass on another competitor. Shooting off the track, and crashing he would remount in 19th. By lap three Lemoine had worked up into 9th, and had his sights set for a top five finish. Shortly after, he missed his timing in a rhythm section and that caused him to take a soil sample. Meanwhile, eight laps into the race, Durham started to race like a future champion, sitting 14th and not backing down one bit; he began to put his fitness to use. With only a handful of laps remaining until the checkers, Durham made a huge effort for his first top ten, and came away with stellar finish in 8th. Lemoine kept on track throughout the remainder of the race taking 18th, which helped him salvage all important championship points.

The series now transitions back to the west coast for a few more weeks, with us heading this weekend up to San Francisco.
