Voss Grabs Lites Victory in Front of Hometown Crowd
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (February 20, 2010) – The second half of the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series kicked-off on Saturday night from the legendary Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. After yet another memorable night of bar-banging action, Babbitt’s Monster Energy/Ti Lube Kawasaki’s Josh Demuth, of North Richland Hills, Texas, raced to his second straight victory and third overall win of the season. Mico, Texas’ Heath Voss grabbed the AMA Arenacross Lites victory in a guest appearance in the series.
Points leader and Babbitt’s Monster Energy/Ti Lube Kawasaki rider Tyler Bowers, of Danville, Ky., was the rider to beat on Saturday night, dominating the majority of the 25-lap AMA Arenacross class main event. However, as the race drew to a close, Demuth put forth one of the most impressive surges to close the gap on his teammate and steal the victory. With the win, Demuth gained another three points on Bowers in the season standings, reducing the deficit to 12 points with five rounds remaining. Bowers held on for second while fellow teammate Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis., helped give Babbitt’s its third podium sweep of the 2010 season.
The return of the AMA Arenacross Lites Western Regional Championship resulted in an impressive victory for one of the sport’s most well-known and well-loved riders. EduNation/Hanger 13 Honda’s Voss made a long-awaited return to the AMA Arenacross Series, taking advantage of the opportunity to race in front of his family and friends. After getting a good start, he took the lead early and never looked back, cruising to victory. Reynard Mods Kawasaki’s Cory Green, of Nowata, Okla., finished second while GPF Babbitt’s Kawasaki’s A.J. Catanzaro, of Middlefield, Conn., rounded out the podium in third.
Bowers remains the AMA Arenacross class points leader while Green leads the AMA Arenacross Lites Western Regional Championship by two points over Catanzaro.
The AMA Arenacross Series continues next weekend from Fresno, Calif. and the Save Mart Center, Saturday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. PT.
